    Wasn't I up between 12:30 and 3:30 this morning? Didn't I get an upsetting call about a baby I know going to the hospital after having a fever-induced seizure? Don't I know more than I want to know about this surprisingly common condition? (Isn't she fine now but has to stay in the hospital for another day?)

    Has my wife's appetite finally returned? Now that she's off medication and the overnight oxygen tank, won't life start to return to normal? Any guesses how many octaves my voice will raise when I see the final medical bill?

    As for my AC, didn't it cost us almost $800 to get fixed? Wasn't it worth it, as the internal house temperature has now dropped by almost 20 degrees F, from 90 to 70? (For the rest of the world, doesn't that correspond to dropping from 32 to 21?)

    Shouldn't I have gotten up earlier too? Aren't I about to leave to go for a hike at Calaveras Big Trees State Park - about 1½ hours away? It's nearly 7am right now, and hadn't I hoped to be on the trail by 7? Isn't it a good thing there's a Starbucks along the way?

    Doesn't that sound like a nice day? Won't I be envious while I'm at the airport and then flying home while you're out enjoying the fresh air and your hike? Didn't I see a frozen yogurt place there? Does that sound like a good lunch? Wasn't I wrong about the frozen yogurt place? Aren't I sitting at a restaurant not far from my gate, having just ordered a chicken, bacon, avocado sandwich and a lemonade?

    Wouldn't you say the tree in the above photo is over 20 feet in diameter? I'm 6'1", and wasn't I able to stand under the notched out part just to the left of center (where I marked it with a blue line)?
