Hi! I'm new to my fitness pal!

Joined my fitness pal to break the monotony of going up & down the scale. Lost 50 lbs 3 yrs ago, gained 19 lbs back over past 3yrs. I'm active , walk 2-3 miles, 3/4× per week. My daily calorie intake (-) burned calories averaged 400-1000 a day. After putting my info into the app, it gave me daily calories of 1835. That to me was a "JOKE". I NEVER EAT THAT MANY CALORIES!! I was willing to try it, knowing I will gain weight. I started the program 3 days ago. After 2 days, I lost 1 lb. I'm still "SCRATCHING MY HEAD".
I WAS ONLY ABLE TO REACH 1500/1600 CALORIES DAILY.
BTW I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE APP!
ONE OF THE BEST I'VE WORKED WITH.

I think a lot of women believe we need to eat some tiny number of calories in order to lose weight, but that's not necessarily so. The "1200 calories or fewer to lose" idea is popular folklore, but I lost weight fine at 59-60 on 1400-1600 plus all carefully-estimated exercise calories, and would still lose slowly on my basic 1850 + exercise at age 66 (5'5", around 130 pounds right now, maintaining). For clarity, the 1850 is my basic goal, but I eat a little under true maintenance most days to bank some calories for the occasional indulgence above that goal.

Some very petite, not-active, and/or older women may need to do the 1200 calorie thing, but it's far from universally necessary.

I understand that up and down of weight gain/loss! I'm finally losing the 20/30 lbs I put on since the pandemic. Please add me as a friend if you like to have friends in your newsfeed :) best of luck either way!
