Getting Motivated

Hi All,

I have gone through many spurts of working out 4-5 days a week then not at all. I am currently in the middle.
About 3 weeks ago I started lifting 5lb weights and doing ab exercises for about 30 minutes a day. Now I'm thinking I need to step it up.

I can NEVER convince myself to go to the gym, so I'm thinking workout videos. I tried Crunch Super Slim Down yesterday, but have heard alot about 30 Day Shred. Any recommendations on the best at home workouts that will get results? Also, any advice on motivating yourself when you are in a rut and CANNOT get out?

Well, unfortunately, I am going to give you a biased recommendation because I am an Independent Team Beachbody Coach. I have used P90X and am currently on Day 22 of Insanity. I love these workouts! The programs offered by Beachbody are a comprehensive solution to weight loss for not only do you get the DVDs and the schedule of when to use which workout, but each program is accompanied by a nutrition plan specifically for your needs to get through the program. Another great thing about Beachbody is there is always someone to motivate you and hold you accountable. It is a terrific system which is why I signed up to be a coach. Friend me and I would be happy to provide you more information!
  • I haven't tried many workout videos but I hear that P90X and Insanity are great and most people see results if you stick to it. As far as motivation, write yourself notes like "GO WORKOUT!!" or "MY GOAL IS TO LOSE...." and stick them on the fridge or mirror. I've done it before and it works. Buy a pair a jeans that you would like to fit and make that your goal...to fit in those jeans. The key is setting goals for yourself and DON'T STOP until you accomplish that goal...one day at time!

I struggle with motivation too. It has always been really easy for me to find an excuse not to exercise. Then, I feel bad and end up blowing my diet all together. Yesterday, I broke down and bought me an ipod and loaded it with music. I walked 5 miles, it took me an hour and forty-five minutes. Today, I biked 10 miles. It is amazing how the music has helped motivate me. I think that this has been what I've been misisng. I get bored really easy.....listening to music is kind of therapy for me.
  • I love the Beachbody DVDs. I am currently doing the slim and 6 and its Awesome. The music sucks but I just put on my own cd and make it happen. Also there website isnt really user friendly. My suggestion would be to goto the beachbody website and see what dvd you would like and order them. Order that and stick to it cause it does work. Keep loggin on to MFP so that your friends can help you staly motivated. Also writing notes to yourself like sthreat suggested it a great visual reminder to stay on tasks.
  • P90X is great, but depending on your level of fitness, you may have to build up to it. It can leave you sore for days! Also, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with knee probs... ^_~ *personal experience* But yeah, it's intense and hardcore.
