Walking as Exercise

Doubtless this question has been posed by someone before, but I haven't seen it on here recently. Today, I logged 30 minutes of walking as exercise at slow pace. I normally walk about 7 minutes from the train to the doctor's office on Tuesdays and Fridays. This particular log is separate from the activity that I normally do. I don't wear/own a heart rate monitor, so I don't know i the 113 calories it says I burned are accurate, but let's assume for the sake of this question that it is. I guess what I'm asking is it considered 'cheating' if I put it in for the day ?

I don't think so - I mean you are moving your body ? I log in carrying children sometimes because I work with toddlers so I don't think you cheating0

There's no "cheating" only losing. That's what counts.0

If it is extra activity that isn't accounted for in your daily activity then you can put it in.
And really, it's only an extra 100 or so cals, whether you eat or don't eat them isn't going to derail your weight loss.0 -
Best thing to do is to try logging it for a month (and eating back your exercise calories) then review your progress. If you are still losing, then you were right to log it, if your loss has slowed or reversed then that activity may have already been accounted for my mfp and you will know you need to stop logging it (let's hope it is the former). I have started logging my casual work as exercise and that gives me 200, sometimes 300 extra calories which is nice cos it leaves me pretty hungry. Still to early to tell if it's working for me though, I'll report back.0

Absolutely add it! I add any kind of exercise and walking is definitely exercise.0

thank you for all your responses so far. It really makes me feel a lot better. sometimes when I do thinks like a lot of walking during the day or laundry, I feel like I'm over exerting myself and I get hungry more often, so it only stands to reason that some kind of energy/calories are being burnt up in the process.0

You are right and you are burning calories with any movement. Think about it...doing laundry you are walking, lifting, bending over, possibly going up and down steps. Since most people don't do laundry every day that is a change up in your regular daily moving!0
