Weight does not go down

Hey community

I have just started on weight loss journey. I have been only doing it for 1 week or so. But so far nothing but frustration. Have been really good on diet to keep my calories intake lower than the BMR around 1200 and exercise (mainly walking 5000 plus steps each day) but my weight just does not go down. And in the last two days when I weight myself it actually went up by a bit. So I am not sure what I did wrong 😑. The only thing I can think of is that my bowel motion is not great in the last 3 days so that might be why. Anyone has this issues ? Help pls. Thanks.

Your bodyweight is comprised of much more than just our fat mass: muscle, water, contents of our bowels...
Our weight fluctuates naturally because of this.
Constipation can certainly cause a stall on the scale. So can water retention from new exercise, stress, weather changes, hormonal changes...
One week is very short, you need to be more patient and wait at least one month or, if you have periods, one menstrual cycle.

Other possibility you could look into: how accurate is your food logging? Weighing everything (as opposed to using cups, spoons,...), making sure you are using accurate for database entries, creating recipes for homecooked meals (as opposed to choosing generic entries in the database)...?

Don’t give in to frustration. Weight loss and weight gain does not happen overnight. It takes time. In my journey for the last year my scale weight is up then down but overall the scale keeps going down over time. I found that not stressing over the scale weight but using a pair of goal pants helped encourage me. I started at a size 16 and I bought a pair of jeans a few sizes smaller. I would once a month try on my goal pants and little by little I would pull them up until one day they slipped right on. I was stoked!!! I am now in a size 6 Jean. Don’t give up. Consistency is key. Stay consistent and you will make progress. 😄

1 week is too early to know results for sure especially if you introduce any new variables. If you just started your 5000 steps or other cardio, you could have water retention for example. I like to give myself 2 weeks following any new change to my diet and routine.

As far as food weight and bowel movements, fiber is your best friend. Not only does it prevent disease, but also will keep you feeling more full so you have a tendency to eat less. Aim for 30+ grams per day 😁

What are you stats? Height, weight, age? How much do you have to lose?
