I am about to start a program called OPTAvia. Does anyone have any experience/opinions about this program? I have about 60 pounds to lose, and am currently taking meds for Type 2 Diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol.

I wouldn't waste your money, honestly. It's not necessary, and most likely won't help long term.7

Some nurses I worked with used to do that program every year or two back when they called it Medifast. Same people. Same program. Same weight. It's so low calorie that it's difficult to comply long-term and eating various potions and powders doesn't teach you much about what to do when you hit your goal. Give it a shot if you must, but I'd do some really hard thinking along the way about what you're going to do to keep the weight off when you get to eat actual food again.7

Agreed. Use it for a jump start. Use it for an occasional crutch. But how can you even think about eating like that for the rest of your life? Start now thinking about forever. Then do what you need to do.2

On top of all of the health reasons not to do it they are a multi level marketing scam (pyramid scheme) that requires people to buy lots of products and recruit new members. As a result they rack up loads of complaints with the Better business bureau. https://www.bbb.org/us/md/baltimore/profile/health-and-wellness/optavia-llc-0011-90288636/complaints?page=1&type=product The original company Medifast was sued for these shady business practices in a class action suit and they just reorganized into this new operation.7

I have had a dozen friends try it. They all dropped out because it's a starvation diet that completely relies on "boosting" your metabolism through eating every 2 hours and heavily replies on overpriced protein bars and foods to do that. On top of that, you eat 800-1000 calories.
I have actually never seen a successful person this this program.11 -
I have been using OPTAvia since April 2022 and am down 50+ pounds, almost to my weight goal, and preparing to transition. It is a somewhat complex plan, but the tools have been provided for long term maintenance and not to gain back the weight. If done properly (I know many people that have lost weight but did not continue through the phases to eat healthy for life) weight loss is able to be maintained. I have a supportive coach as well as other supportive people that have assisted me in my weight loss journey. However, I also know people that have not had that and no, it will not be successful. My endocrinologist has also been very supportive, but encouraged the portion people leave out: learning to live a more healthy lifestyle by way of overall diet and exercise. I do not get hungry, and most don't if they do the plan properly, as well has have a supportive coach. Good luck to you!3
