Good morning everyone!
Yesterday was so busy! I got off work at 3:30, my daugther had her dental appointment at 4, we hit up a local church trunk or treat and fall festival at 5:30 for about 40 minutes and raced to the gym for the girls volleyball and my evening workout. Knowing we would be crazy we did throw dinner in the slow cooker and it was pretty dang good. I think next time I need to bump up the salt, pepper and paprika though because my daughter and I both drizzled plenty of salt and pepper on after it came out. Otherwise I'm definitely keeping it in the dinner rotation when I need a slow cooker dish.
Garlic Brown Sugar Pork Tenderloin (Hungry Girl Simply Comfort Cookbook):
1 lb pork tenderloin, trimmed of excess fat
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp chopped garlic
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/8 tsp smoked paprika
1 1/2 cup chopped onion
1 cup carrots cut in coins
Spray slow cooker with nonstick spray
Place pork in cooker
Mix all ingredients except onion & carrot together
Rub over pork tenderloin
Top with onion and carrot
Slow cook for 7 to 8 hours on low
Today we're heading to Chick-Fil-A for a Family Costume Party including a treat trail and character meet and greets from the local party company. I'm trying to remind myself already that I actually like the salad and that I don't need a fried chicken sandwich.... but it's Chick-Fil-A and that sandwich is iconic for a reason. We shall see how it goes.
I didn't get my walk in this morning as the kid was running behind again and it's also 33°F outside this morning. However, I did put in a quick 15 minute You Tube walking workout this morning and I'll still get my lunch time neighborhood walk in with all the hills included. Last night's workout was hitting the eliptical at the gym for a full 45 minutes so I'm not going to beat myself up over not getting in an evening workout today. Family fun time is more important for today.
Hope you all have an amazing day!!!!!0 -
@keria Just FYI, muscle is NOT heavier than fat. 1lb of muscle weighs the same as 1lb of fat. Muscle is more dense than fat and takes up less space.

GW: 250
My issues are emotional eating and eating when I'm bored. I struggle with PTSD, anxiety, insomnia, depression, short-term memory problems, and staying motivated.
I start a new part-time job today after being let go from my first full-time job since my husband died. My memory issues have added an enormous amount of frustration and anxiety to my life. I'm slowly getting better.
Hoping to find support here and give it as well. Always looking for friends to hold each other accountable.
I have a LOT to lose, so trying to take it one day at a time instead of getting overwhelmed.
Glad to be here and hope to make some friends!2 -

- Walking in the am on work from home days
- Gym 3x per week or more
- Log as accurately as possible
Looks like most of the Vegas weight gain is now gone. Just trying to stay the course and focus on making the best choices available each and every day.
On the goal front I have had some wins and some challenges. I am going to have to change my walking plan since it is no longer light enough to walk before I have to start work. I may have to try for walking on a mid-morning or afternoon break. I have hit my 3 day a week gym goal although I would have liked to go more days. Logging has been very accurate!
Hope everyone has an excellent week!1 -

Happy Friday!!!
I managed to go to the Chick-Fil-A event last night and stick to all my goals! I had a snack about a hour before we left so I wasn't completely starving. Then I just had the large chicken soup, one packet of crackers and a small ice dream cup. It was a great event with professional characters there for Captain Jack Sparrow, Tinkerbell, Anna, Elsa and Spiderman along with a mini treat trail around the restaraunt.
Tonight is pumpkin splash. In case you didn't know, pumpkins float. The kids swim at the indoor pool and pick out their pumpkin. Then they dry off, change clothes and get to decorate it, play games, have snacks, etc. I'm hoping to avoid the snacks and just enjoy painting pumpkins and playing games.
Tomorrow is the monthly movie night with no calorie counting and having anything that appeals. It's also tamale making day!!!! But before that my daughter has volleyball, I'm picking up 3 other little girls and I'm hitting another fall festival. It's going to be a tight schedule and crazy busy... I'm going to need an adult beverage or two when I hit the tamale / movie party because 4 girls ages 8 to 10 giggling and running are going to be a lot to handle at the festival.
Have a fabulous weekend if I don't check in before Monday!!!
@TexasTallchick I eat more when I’m stressed, super happy and bored too. I hope your job goes well.
@sandielewis2001 I walk in my neighborhood a lot in the mornings before work. I bought myself light up slap bracelets. My daughter thinks I need to get her some. LOL. But really it made a big difference because now my neighbors can see me in the dark and I’m not a worried about being hit by a passing car when I’m lit up.
@sophiefluke Good luck with your classes! I keep looking at some of the HIIT classes at my local YMCA but they seem more intense than I’m comfortable with just yet. Maybe one day I’ll be confident enough to join them.

@pamperedlinny Unfortunately it is not a matter of other people not seeing me but of the wildlife seeing me when I can't see them. We have confirmed recent sightings of black bears, bobcats and mountain lions around the house. The mountain lions especially can be dangerous. It's another reason why I always walk with my 100lb dog.

@justanotherloser007 Sounds as though you are getting the medical help you need, so these suggestions may not be helpful to you, but here goes in case they are:
Dr. Sten Ekberg: 10 Signs That You Have a Leaky Gut (one is rashes): https://youtube.com/watch?v=M0K4CchaL40
Dr. Eric Berg: What Causes Hives and Itchiness: https://youtube.com/watch?v=iEYDr808bPk
I really like Dr. Ekberg's channel for health information: https://youtube.com/c/drekberg. All the thumbnails look like clickbait, but just ignore that. The videos themselves are not.2 -

🧅 Hit 3 servings of vegetables every day except Sundays! I reserve Sundays for not hitting my usual protein/oil/carb goals.
🌶️Recuperate from hives. If possible, continue fitness journey and always be thankful!.
🍆Be patient! Remember that increments are where it is at, and focus on habits.
🧄Remember: Total loss of 130 lbs!!
Vegetables are going great! If you looked at my week, the smarties are not as exciting as okra lols. Something I have learned on this journey, is it doesn't really matter what I eat - but I like it to be ALOT NOM NOM NOM. So, vegetables are my friend! I was able to eat smarties without getting all weird. I am back on the prednisone, so I will be flying blind for the next month due to prednisone water weight gain. I am really glad to be on it, what a relief! It is so wonderful to not have hives right now!!! Praise be to God, thanks to the Lord for Your great mercy and kindness!
@KacyCarpe Thank you! I will be checking it out! The hives have been a long time scourge for me (since 2003) and I definitely have a gut connection. Whenever the hives are their worst, I have farts that smell like they came from the depths of hell. But of course, Dr.s don't do anything with that information, and they just seem like they don't know what to do with me as a general rule. My hubby is pretty miffed that I eat clean and very well, and have lost all this weight and it doesn't seem to help my hives. But, I mean, the Dr.'s never said that would help. It was just something that I was able to do. The hives just aren't related to weight, skinny people get hives too. It is more of an auto-immune thing - and that is where the gut comes in. I am looking forward to the videos!

@KacyCarpe Is there any kind of treatment for leaky gut? Or is it another one of those diagnoses with no treatments?1

Hello all, I have read all your posts since I last posted but I am not going to comment on all of them.
Basically what I am doing right now is trying to establish a healthy routine which includes working full time. I am now only commuting 2 days a week (working at home the other 3). These 2 days basically dictate when I can go to the Y and get some water exercise in. We go to the Y early 3 mornings a week and have been doing this for a couple of weeks so it is going well. 2 of the days are before work. This means I really have to watch my sleep since I am getting up earlier. The plan was to start walking on the non-aquafit days but the wildfires here put a stop to that. The air quality here was not good enough for exercise outdoors until yesterday. We plan a small walk today despite the rain. It is very strange for Seattleites to be praying for rain but many of us were to dampen the fires and to help with the air quality. It went from the worse air quality in the world last week to good the next day after we got wind blowing in the right direction followed by rain.
The next issue is getting into a meal planning/shopping/cooking schedule that works. That has been hard until this weekend since my household has been out of town. This morning I set up a meal schedule and planned my meals to cook for the week. My husband will make 2, I will make 2 and my youngest will make 1-2. Leftovers will probably get us through 1 meal and I am fine with 1 take out meal a week. Our youngest can avoid that or leftovers by making a 2nd meal each week. Anyway that should solve the main issue for me which is too much eating out. Then after I sent out the plan my youngest says she will cook tonight (my night on the schedule) and will use the mushrooms she wanted me to use up but I can adjust things.
I am still not logging except on the weekends. It used to be that the weekends were when it was hard for me to log. However I weigh everyday and am watching my weight to make sure I stay within the range I was at before the job. I am now more on the higher range more days when before the job I was on the lower range and about to lose a pound. Maybe next month I will have things so that I can start to lose. I like my new job. I just need to get used to the new routine.
We haven’t gotten a pumpkin yet. Last year we had so many trick or treaters we ran out of candy even with my youngest buying some and me as well. I can’t get the candy too early or I will be tempted. What I do like is roasting pumpkin seeds on Halloween and making hot cider. We will have a lunch at work that day as well.

You are taking what I said out of context. If you keep what I was saying in context it would be that a body of a person that had a lower bodyfat % would likely be heavier than the very same body of a person with a higher % body fat all else being equal. Or that a cubic foot of muscle would weigh more than a cubic foot of fat. I would never say a pound of muscle weighs more than a pound of fat.0 -
Well my youngest did cook last night but came home chilled from a walk in the rain and we ate very late last night. It was delicious home cooked Chinese food. Pickle fish soup, King oyster mushrooms sauteed with scallions and eggs with tomato. My husband and I also went for a walk but during a break in the rain. Since we hadn't walked for a while we walked our short walk but my legs were complaining. This morning we didn't go to aquafit since my arm was hurting. We will go for a grocery shopping trip today and maybe another walk. Anyway I was a lb. down today -just from eating at home. I have adjusted my meal plan for the week to account for the changes. We will see how it works this week.2

Happy Monday!
The weekend was just as crazy busy as you would imagine. However, tamale making and movie night was so fabulous! I love having that time to just sit with other adult women, talk, laugh, be entertained, catch up, etc. I missed that so much during 2020 and I'm so glad early this year to have created a once a month food cheating, ladies only, with kids playing upstairs, movie night. I feel so much better after being around my girls for a few hours. Two years without that connection was too much for me. Mentally I need that time.
Today's Zumba is cancelled but I still put in a 45 minute You Tube walking workout this morning. I also have my book club tonight so I'm going to try to avoid too many of the snacks and just stick to the book talk... even though I hated this book. You can't enjoy them all.
After movie night shenanigans on Saturday and eating well yesterday I weighed in this morning to find I was exactly the same as I had been on Friday morning. Yay!!!!
@justanotherloser007 I’m sorry about the flying blind on prednisone but glad it will bring you some relief. My dad has an autoimmune and has been on it for a while now and I know it’s great for helping control symptoms but horrible for knowing what weight or other things your body is going through while on it.
@KeriA I’m glad the wind and rain finally brought some air quality relief. The plan for everyone to take turns for dinner sounds like a good one. Then it isn’t all on just one person and you’ll likely have more variety with others pitching in too.

@justanotherloser007
Caveat: I am not a medical professional. What I have learned about leaky gut started from books, podcasts, and videos (you'll get a ton of hits if you search "leaky gut" on YouTube). I would try to vet the person's qualifications and triangulate the sources to get accurate information and recommend you do the same. For a long time, the idea was rather poo-poo'd by gastroenterologists and other medical specialists, who correctly noted that all the data were anecdotal: few clinical studies had been conducted. In the last few years, that has changed. If you google "leaky gut peer-reviewed articles," or something along those lines, you'll find many recent studies in well-respected journals investigating this topic. (For example, here's one specifically on leaky gut and autoimmunity: https://doi.org/10.3390/ijms21249770). Even so, many doctors would not give you a diagnosis of leaky guy. They just diagnose the hives, not the underlying condition that might be causing the hives.
Given the promising clinical evidence and the mountain of anecdotal evidence, I'd say that anyone experiencing symptoms of leaky gut has nothing to lose and everything to gain by working to address it. Most advice is pretty common sense for good health anyway.
Here's a good overview: https://youtube.com/watch?v=ZJc4eJIFPJ4
Symptoms:- Diarrhea, constipation, or bloating (chronic)
- Fatigue, low energy
- Headaches
- Confusion, difficulty concentrating, brain fog
- Skin problems (acne, rashes, eczema)
- Joint pain
- Widespread inflammation
- Nutritional deficiencies
First step in treatment is to figure out what is causing the leaky gut and remove that from your diet.
Possible Offending Causes:- Foods you are allergic to or sensitive to (common ones are eggs, dairy, and gluten)
- Sugar
- Processed foods, GMOs
- Refined vegetable oils
- Chronic use of OTC medications such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen
- Overuse of antibiotics
- GI infection, SIBO (need a doc to assess via a stool test)
- Alcohol
- Artifical sweeteners
Once you have identified and removed the culprits (might take many weeks), you can start to rebuild your gut lining.
Possible Ways to Repair:- Keep eating well; you can't go back to eating crap
- Enhance your digestion: Take digestive enzymes with your meals (talk to a doc)
- Replace good bacteria: Consume prebiotics and probiotics; eat fermented foods
- Take supplements thought to help promote repair of the gut lining: hydrolyzed collagen powder, zinc carnosine, L glutamine, slippery elm, aloe
I knew right away that for me, the big culprits were sugar and gluten. I was really resistant to cutting gluten, so I read lots of books and watched lots of videos to really understand what was happening to my body. After 20 seconds of enjoying that piece of sourdough, everything else was going to be a disaster. It sounds corny, but I started thinking about eating from the perspective of my gut, not just my tastebuds. Plenty of foods make them both happy, so that's how I shifted my thinking.
I hope this helps. Good luck!3 -
Hey all! It's Tuesday and I'm already tired from this week.
Book club last night went really well and was a lot of fun. I checked my blood sugar before going in and was higher than I liked so I kept away from all the snacks. Fudge, two kinds of cookies, smores, wine and hot toddies were all on the menu around the bon fire and I managed to keep away from all of it. So proud of myself! Seriously. That was hard. I'm really enjoying getting to know the ladies there. November's book is going to be Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng so let me know if you've read it.
Tonight is the ladies bible study and since there is no way to know what the dinner will be I'm going to try and keep my food choices light today.
I have a bit of a cough.... you know that tickle in the back of your throat that just bugs you? No other symptoms of anything and I got tested. All is good. But that tickle is making exercise hard because it seems to be triggering it more. When I sit still I'm not coughing at all. When my throat starts to get dry it gets intense. Stupid allergies and minor cold make me sound like I'm hacking up a lung. Boo! My husband had a minor cold about a week ago and he was clear for covid, flu, etc too. Just a seasonal thing.
My goal for the rest of the year has really been maintenance. My secondary goal is to get to my previous low weight (whenever that happens). My ultimate goal to to not be "obese"... as with my other health stuff I am not aiming for "normal BMI" I'll be happy at "overweight". My alternate, and more important goal, is to keep a normal blood sugar range and keep my diabetes in control with just diet and exercise as long as possible.
Right now I'm at 222 lb. My previous low was 195 lb. I will be "overweight" at 190 lb and would like some wiggle room so... my ultimate goal is 180. I just realized this morning that I'm only about 40 lbs from my ultimate goal and while I messed it up before I know I can do this. Slow and steady wins the race. Also, I'll never be the 300 lbs I was when I started. Even when I was 9 months pregnant I didn't get that high again. As long as I never really give up I've got this. There is something about seeing your end goal as close that really helps motivate.2 -
Hey all. Can't believe we're near the end of another month! I haven't been very active in October. But I've joined Weight Watchers again (5 months free) so I'm giving it my best!2
-
Hey all! I kind of hit a slippery slope yesterday. Not the entire day but still.... However, I did skip the dessert last night so I wasn't nearly as bad as I could have been. Mostly, I just didn't log or measure yesterday.
Today is my daughter's volleyball practice. I'm not sure I can hit the gym while she practices since I've been coughing when I exert myself and that's kind of sad.
It's also National Pumpkin Day so I might try to find something to make with the canned pumpkin I have in the pantry today.0 -
Wow, just a few days left of this month!
I have been walloped with a brutal head and chest cold. It started with a sore throat last Monday (17th), hit full force on Friday, ruined my girls' weekend away plans, and has generally kept me near a bed for the last five days. No exercise—I can barely breathe just moving about the house. Crappy sleep cycle: up for hours coughing, then sleeping late to catch up. In short, a total wrench in my plans.
On the plus side, despite feeling pretty sorry for myself as my friends went away for the weekend, I have made good eating choices. I think that not pushing myself to exercise and sleeping in are also good choices. Instead of turning to comfort food, I've gotten real comfort from homemade soup and immune-boosting foods.
Wrenches get thrown into plans, right? Crap happens. I don't know about you guys, but when one thing doesn't go as planned, I tend to sabotage everything. "Oh, I haven't been able to exercise for a week? May as well eat everything in sight then!" This all-or-nothing thinking has been so problematic for me. I'm proud to say that I have stuck to my overriding goal (keep working the system and don't add too much too soon) and overriding question (will this choice help me become the person I want to become?). They have allowed me to frame this cold as nothing more than an interruption in my regularly scheduled programming. It seems like a small thing, but it's a huge win for me, and I wanted to write it down to help me remember that the next time a wrench gets thrown in (because: crap ALWAYS happens), I have it in me to pick a tool out of my toolbox that is not "bag of something salty and crunchy."

Ok October is almost but I’m 66
Last week I had a family event ate more food than I should have in two days in one. But today when I timidly stepped on my scale I weighed 204.8 lbs. the same as last week. I’m ok with that. I started this time at 231.4 July 1 2022.
This month I’ve lost 5.4 lbs.
my goal for the next 30 days is to say goodbye to the 200s4 -
Good morning!
How is everyone doing with keeping out of the Halloween candy this week??? So far I haven't gotten into any of it but I'm trying to pretend it doesn't exist either.
I'm still coughing when I exert myself so no work out last night, no walk this morning and no Zumba tonight. My whole body feels wrong with not moving much at all but when I do more than the miniumum I start coughing again. No other sickness symptoms other than tired (mostly because I cough when I lay flat) but this cough is driving me crazy because I want to MOVE.
I'll be taking my girl to Lego Club tonight and I still need a dinner plan. What is everyone else making??? Give me some ideas.
@KacyCarpe I’m so sorry your sick! I have the cough without all the rest. However, some of my friends and neighbors have the flu, covid and all sorts of nasty that seems to be going around. I hope you feel better quickly!
@jjlbrick Great job maintaining after a big event! That’s fabulous.

Well I have been sick since Thursday (sore throat and barely able to talk) so have accomplished none of my goals this week. I think I made it to the gym once before I decided that my body needed rest more than exercise. I've also probably been eating a bit closer to maintenance with a focus on good nutrition and foods that are soft to eat.
On the bright side I have experienced a few NSV this week!
1. My wedding rings are again feeling super lose and need to be resized. They have already been sized down from a 9.75 to a 7 and I may need to go as low as a 6.5
2. We had a harvest festival at work yesterday and I needed something "festive" to wear. While I was at CVS they had Halloween fitted hoodies that were super cute. Lately I have been wearing tops in M or L but the sizes were only S/M or L/XL. I first picked up the L/XL but went back to the rack and got the S/M. I bought without trying on and it fit perfectly!
This upcoming weekend is pretty busy: Friday is shopping for family picture outfits with my mom and sister (Mom's Christmas request is new family pictures). Saturday is chores around the house, I need to finish cleaning gutters and putting up gutter guards before we really get rain. Sunday is wine tasting with friends and an 80th birthday party for our neighbor. Hoping I can kick the last of the funk before Friday and am going to strive to make the best choices available this weekend.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Good morning all! I'm so glad it's Friday.
We don't have any plans for tonight so I'm going to enjoy just sitting around and watching family friendly Halloween movies tonight. Tomorrow my daughter has a volleyball game, we have a friend's block party mid-afternoon and my neighborhood trunk or treat (we have a princess car this year). Afterwards back to the block party house for the after block party karaoke. Sunday has church and then a different church's trunk or treat as well so we'll be busy for the next couple days.
I'm still coughing so exercise is still an issue. With all the extra time to sit and not move the snacks are looking better and better. I need to be able to go walk it off and instead every walk gets me about 100 feet and then a coughing fit. Ugh! I almost wish I was actually sick and not just this stupid cough. Then I wouldn't want to move at least.
Hope you all have a fantastic weekend and don't go too crazy on the candy!
@sandielewis2001 There seems to be a lot of us sick in the past week or two. I hope you feel better quickly!

Hi everyone!
Popped 178 this morning to close out the month, lol. Not worried about it, still lower than I started! I'll take it! Happy halloween, everyone! Dinner tonight is chicken sausages wrapped in puff pastry to make "mummies," with halloween-shape pasta with homemade cheese sauce and brussels sprouts.
