What do you think?

Hi MFP community,

I was wondering what you guys think what is the better way to loose weight and why? Is it better to dieting or change your eating habits? I would vote for change the eating habits as I don't want to live only on certain things daily, but eat what I feel like to eat. I am cooking daily and moderated most of the food that I make if not all of it and I am loosing weight although I am not on a race so I am taking it easy.Would it be just that easy? No it is not that easy to eat healthy and to workout is equally important therefore I workout 6 times a week at least an hour not because I like to do it( actually some of the days I really have to kick my own butt, but it is worth it) On my rest day I still walk an hour, because to be healthy and get in a good shape it is necessary and anyway it feels good, give me energy and make me happy to say at the end of the day that I did it.
In the past I've been trying to do so many things, counted my calories, eat 1200 calories than switched eating 1800 calories as some of the people told me to do so, I was eating back my exercise calories, on my rest day I was watching movies, I did some cheating day and when I got tired of the wasted months and energy I realized that things just doesn't work for me and don't make me keep going, because what works for others probably won't work the same way for me, so I had to find my own way. There is no secret I am not eating the whole day only fruits and veggies, but eating small portion from everything and I am including fruits/ veggies daily in my nutrition, I try not to eat after 6pm and my dinner is always lighter than what I eat the rest of the day. I also drink minimum 64 oz of water and on top of that at least 16-20 oz of green tea. I am avoiding sugar and snacks, salty things, but do eat at times a bit( maybe once a month) I make healthier choices regarding so I usually make my own snack. I believe the weight loss should be more about changing eating & life habits than about diets but as for each person different things works I would like to ask you all what works best for you and what are you doing to keep yourself going?

Thanks for all the comment!
If you feel like do not hesitate to add me, I would be glad to help on your journey and give support!

Sounds to me like you've already got everything the correct perspective.

"Dieting" is not a long-term plan. It's not just the food, its the entire lifestyle, so changing your habits is the only way to achieve lasting results!

    Cheers to you! :-)
  • I would have to say for everyone there is a different plan. First and foremost you have to stick to a healthy balance of food and exercise. If you put 5 dollars worth of gas in your tank each day and only do 4 dollars worth of driving we all know where the extra fuel goes.
I have recently joined this site and for years I would hover between 165 and 175lbs. I started drinking beer this summer and my weight jumped to 200lbs in 3 months. Its much easier to gain it than loose it so I have stuck with calorie intake. I like doing the math and it keeps me occupied.
I stay physical with coaching hockey, walking the dog and will start weight training when I start feeling more comfortable the way my clothes fit.

I agree with the above. You already have a great plan, and being a lifestyle is so much better than thinking about it as dieting. Sending good wishes your way!

I would say that losing weight is all about a lifestyle change, encompassing diet and exercise. Just keeping track of what - and how much - you're eating, and making sure that the calories going in are less than the calories going out.

I started here knowing this was a lifestyle change. I just thought moderation was the answer, what I found out is that there were things I was eating that I don't even LIKE anymore. I very rarely eat sweets (even skipped cake on my own birthday) and choose other options. So while I still believe in moderation I've found that the "eat what I want" has changed!

It's a slow and steady is the key, and knowing that there are going to be bad days (or weeks LOL).
