Diets fail 'because advice is wrong', say researchers

    just going by the title but - I believe that. I've heard so much crap go from person to person on weight loss. haha.

    Makes sense, especially the part where you eat more and still lose!! I remember saying oh wow I skipped the gym all week , ate more than usual and still lost weight. In my mind I thought I retrained my metabolism. Luckily I weigh in everyday and when it started to creep back on I went back to the successful routine....Thanks for sharing!!

    That story is riddled with things that make me cringe. Most importantly she says this:

    "But researchers say the reason so many of us relapse and fail on diets is because we have unrealistic expectations. And this is not our fault but that of experts, because the advice they give us is flawed."

    But then she goes on to say, "...as the slimmer begins to see the weight falling off in the early months they are so pleased with their achievement that they begin to relax and the diet slips"

    How is that the fault of experts? Give me a break!! She JUST said the *slimmer* relaxes with the diet. The experts never once say that if you reduce your caloric intake by 500 per day for a while, that you can relax at some point after seeing results.

    I hate stories like this. Clearly, the writer made an entire story based on her own misreading of someone's study. Poor journalism.

    Diets fail because they are diets. Reducing your caloric intake by 500 per day is not a diet.
