How to get calories in quick?

After my workout, I find that I have a lot of calories remaining for the day... Which isn't really a bad thing except I usually work out at night, so it's 8:40pm right now and I still have 1481 calories remaining. Yesterday, it was about 1600 calories remaining. Do you guys have any tips on how I can get calories in fast? I don't really have much of an appetite these days, so I don't eat as much as I used to. Also, I sleep late and wake up late so by the time I get up it's lunch/dinner time. I know one way to fix this is to sleep early and wake up early enough to start the day with breakfast, but are there any other ways? Oh, I'm also curious about those post-workout bars they sell in stores, the ones that are high in protein. Would anyone recommend them? I've always thought they were high in sugar and fat so I've always stayed away from them. ): Thanks in advance!

    calorically dense foods
    nuts
    nut butters
    oils
    pasta
    full fat dairy

you could make a shake with some protein powder, full fat milk and some pb, maybe throw in a scoop of ice cream

I am often faced with the same problem. I recommend trying to get in more snacks during the day- I often eat 2 to 3 snacks inbetween meals, that way you aren't eating 1600 calories right before going to sleep. Also consider higher calorie food options- nuts, protein shakes, etc.
  • Post workout bars can be fine - just make sure you read labels. Look for whole ingredients and natural sweeteners in the ingredient list - not "cane sugar" or the like. For example, [it's not a workout bar, persay] but Larabar's have about 15 - 22g of sugar per bar. But that all from dates - the only sweetener they use! Nature is always better than whatever factories dole out!

I think you should try to eat more of those high calorie foods listed during the day before your workout. If you know you're going to work out, fuel your body for it!

Yeah, eat more before you workout so you aren't trying to stuff it all in late at night.
