hey, welcome jim. i read a pretty good book recently, called "guide to your first triathlon" that had a whole lot of information about running, biking, and swimming, as well as nutrition and heart rates, etc. you don't necessarily need to do a triathlon, but it will give you some great information about working out.
what are your weight loss and fitness goals?0 -
hi
i just want to lose about 10 to 14 lb really, or my belly and man boobs lol, what ever comes of or goes first
im going to the gym 3 times a week for a hour ish each time i go, some times more
my eating is ok its about 800 to 1200 cals aday, i should really eat more like 1800 ish, but i want to lose wight fast so will keep it
around 800 to 1200 mark till ive drop to the wight i want then will nock it up abit to a even level, and work out more
i will look for that book too, thanks for the info0 -
hey, book is actually "Your First Triathlon" by Joe Friel.
i know you may want to lose fast, but really losing a pound a week is the best. i'm actually set for a pound and a half though.
any more might drastically hurt your body. being healthy is the most imporant, and their is no need to starve oneself. try eating 1800, and also re-eating your exercise calories. not all of them, but allow yourself to eat maybe half. i know i do, and i've been losing weight pretty steadily. 17 pounds since august 8th!0 -
hi
thanks for the info, yer i thought i was abit under on my cals
by the sounds of it your doing well, and seem to have it under control
im still very new at this and have soooooo much to learn, manly about the do's and dont's about foods to have
i will get there in the end i sure, i just want to know it all now lol
what do you mean be "re-eating your exercise calories"0 -

we're all here to learn.
say you're set to eat 1800 calories a day. that is already a deficit to lose weight. you go for a run and burn off 300 calories. you enter that information into myfitnesspal, and now you are allowed to eat 2100 calories that day. i know it may seem counter productive to eat more, but if you make good healthy choices, you can eat and build muscle and burn fat.0 -
ahhh ok cool, i understand now
plus got up my food and workout info up today at last
just need to keep up on it now and do it everyday, learning alot from others too
so will add more and better food to mine as i find it in the shops
thanks again0 -
Jim
I agree with engineman
have been up and down most of my life
Loosing slower is better as it stays off, if you go fast you feel great about yourself but it'll go on faster
i've been on a few diet plans they worked but didn't last
Have strted going to a nutritioist and am learning about food and myself, not just following diet companies rules but learning for myself
Luckily my company health plan covers 80% of cost
For what my comments may be worth0 -
hi martin
it all helps, and thank you for posting, yes i do need to learn alot about eatting right, and keep eatting right
as for the gym side and working out, i seem to understand most of that, and i have alot of help in the gym when i dont
but as for the food, ...... omg sooo much to learn, and like you said i need to learn alot about myself too
so thanks again it all helps0 -
