I'm 5'8" and 155 lbs (currently). I'm not "fat" but I want to loose the tummy weight. I'm a 26 year old female and I've been on a 1200 calorie diet for 3.5 months. Honestly, I haven't been working out much... I guess I was hoping (and assuming) that going hungry would do more than just drop 5 lbs. I haven't lost any weight in about a month, and I have recently started exercising... Riding an exercise bike for 30 min going 20-ish mph. I don't know what the resistance is, but I have asthma and its a start to exercise.

I don't understand why I haven't lost more weight on such a strict diet. I don't eat a lot of high fat foods, however I do eat a lot of carbs. I eat carbs, vegetables, and lean protein. I hardly have any red meat and fried foods.

Part of me is frustrated, but my stomach is shrunk and I don't crave food as much anymore. However, I'm worried than when I'm off this diet, going to a 1500-1700 calorie diet I'm going to gain weight. Am I ever going to be able to eat real food ever?

I want to know what I need to do to loose weight... I want to loose my extra tummy weight.

When does my body start "eating" its fat?

To be honest weight loss is more of a life-style not a diet so if this 1200 calorie diet isn't working there's a reason. I would suggest eat when your hungry and stop when your not as long as your eating the right foods and not chowing down on fried food, processed food, etc.... Weight loss is also linked to stress so you might not be losing if your stressing out about your intake, weight loss, and all other factors of life. So maybe if you stop stressing out about when am I gonna be able to eat more again and start creating a relationship with your food this may actually help you lose.

    Hope this helps.

You need to do strength training, 3-5 times per week, try using two 5 lb dumbbells to work on your upper body, you can google some basic upper body exercises. Just make sure you're doing at least 3 sets of 10-15 repeats, of each strength training exercise you choose. Also, a great strength training exercise for lower body is walking up stairs, try that for 20 min, 3-5 times per week :) One thing to remember about stairs, never walk down, it's bad for your knees, just walk up and take the elevator down, then repeat!
I lost 60 lb previously with the help of strength training (dumbbells + stairs) and sticking to about 1200 calories per day, took me just 3 months! I'm again on the same method of weight loss, already lost 5 lb in just under a week!

P.S. I'm also about your height and weight :) Good luck!
  • You are at a healthy weight, so that it something to enjoy. To reshape your body, try yoga or pilates. You'll feel better too. If you eat healthy, then there is not a lot to worry about. Make yourself happy and self-confident by other means than dieting because going hungry won't do it. Best of everything to you!
  • There is no true way to spot tone; however, if you are worried mostly about your abs then make sure to do regular core strengthening activities and focus on holding your core tight throughout the day, set reminders on your phone or computer to remind yourself. Make sure you are drinking enough water. You probably need to change up your routine a bit, but without knowning you better, I wouldn't know what your routine is to offer great advice.

    You know what to do!

Crunch's, Pilates, Core Exercises. But don't just do crunches alone, there's a lot of different exercises you can do. Just Google It! You'll have a six pack in no time!
