Good time to weigh yourself?

Just curious when everyone thinks is a good time to weigh yourself. A lot of people say first thing in the morning but I always see people at the gym weighing themselves early evening before or after their workout. This doesn't make sense to me, especially if you ate shortly before doing so. Thoughts?

I've always heard once a week, first thing in the morning by 8 am, and naked. Honestly, if youre releasing weight though I don't think it matters in the end; you'll know what you achieved at one point or another. It all evens out in the end.

Your best bet, on the weekend, first thing in the morning before eating/drinking. You'll get your most accurate and reliable results that way. During the week a lot of people eat inconsistantly. Before/after workouts would vary as well. Ever see a restaurant with a scale up front (finnish pancake house nearby has one)...it's there cause you can go in and come out, then see how much you gained in that meal..

Consistency is key, for you to be able to compare results.
  • Weighing at the gym totally doesn't make sense to me either.... after eating/drinking water all day/wearing those shoes... no thank you!

I always weigh first thing in the morning. I feel that is it more consistent...it won't matter so much what you've eaten throughout the day because your tummy is empty. Also, after a trip to the restroom and no clothes! No excuses that way! :)

I always weigh in the mornings but I suppose if you weigh at the same time everyday, whether it be morning or evening, you will still see your weight loss.

I have weighted myself first thing in the morning and then again around 11:30 am. The weighed less at 11:30. Strange eh?

I always weigh first thing in the morning. I get up, use the bathroom and get on the scale. I also only weigh in once a week (at home) but I have to weigh every two weeks at my doctors office.

Good luck and we are all here for you!!!

I agree with linybean and bevsdietfor2011 - wake up, no clothes and after going to the bathroom - once a week. Works for me, and I think it was a good question. Feel free to add me as a friend for support and encouragement.

It doesn't really matter, weighing at a different time of day won't make you lose more.

When you weigh and when you "officially" weigh or record can be 2 different things.

I started out with the intent to weigh Friday mornings, but I'm too curious to keep off of the scale all week.
I'm usually on the scale everyday, but don't record everyday... I only log a change if I've maintained it for 3-days in a row.

However often you weigh-in, it's best to be consistent.... The easiest way to do that is morning after using the bathroom and before eating/drinking au natural.

Weighing daily is like watching the stock market... If the ups and down bother you, best not to check it everyday.
  • I agree with some of the others....definitely once a week on a weekend. Personally I weigh in every Sunday morning after I wake up, use the restroom and shower.

The showering part is important because I'll weigh myself when I wake up and use the restroom and be one weight, but after a shower I'm usually about 2 lbs lighter. I don't know why, but I must shower first. It usually doesn't make much of a difference than like 0.5 if I have clothes or not.
