I hope somebody can help me understand this cal counter.
From what i could understand is that, MFP has calculated our target goal cal per day based on our targeted weight lose/week. And supposed i eat up to the dot of the recommended goal cal, i will still lose them. Am i right?
Or that we must eat below the recommended goal cal?

I'm a little unsure about this. And whenever i exceeded the goal cal, I'll try to lose them with my cardio exercises. I can do that right?
Also, what if i somehow exceeded the goal cal few times in a week but overall weekly net calories are still below the targeted goal? Is it ok?

I hope someone can explain the mechanism to me.
Thanks in advance!!

i use cardio to stay around my targeted goal and have been losing weight. and by chance if my daily is exceeded but my weekly total is under i dont worry. if u exceed with healthy calories it shouldnt be a big concern. good luck!
  • Hi, You are meant to have the amount of calories it has set you, if you exercise the calories burnt get added on so you can take more calories in, this is so you keep healthy, and to prevent your body from going into starvation mode. Hope this helps, goodluck

Eating at the goal they give you is ideal. I have found that going over a little a few times a week is not that big of a deal, I still lose weight. Constantly eating under your goal can sometimes be just as harmful as constantly going over, everyone is different so you just need to find what works best for you. Good luck and I hope I have helped somewhat :)

MFP has based your target calorie intake based on your weight, height, age, and I think maybe activity level? (not sure if thats an option to be honest). But this is not a guarantee, and peoples metabolisms work differently, and your activity level and exercise will of course affect your weight loss. I can guarantee one thing, if you maintain your calorie goals daily, you surely wont gain weight, and will lose weight....albeit, maybe not as fast as your "goal" originally stated you would lose it...but haha...then again, you could lose it much faster...its just person dependent. As far as exceeding your calories, yes, exercise will cancel those calories out, but I wouldnt want to get into the habit of having to do that. Its much easier to keep your mouth closed, than it is to run a couple miles...haha... Im not an expert or anything, but I will say that I wouldnt keep going over your calorie goals for like six days, and then starve yourself on the seventh day, just to meet your weekly goals. Just try to stay under, or at least close to your goals on a daily basis, and you will see progress... Its math, but it ain't rocket science... :P

Hey guys! Thanks a lot for the advices.
Now i don't have to get all stressed out over the red line! :)
  • I thought that it would be difficult sticking to 1200 calories a day, but most days i am way under. I work nights and then sleep during the day and spend evenings with my kids, therefore i havent found time to exercise. Just by counting calories i have lost 25LBS in 5 weeks. Oh I did give up drinkin beer, that was the hardest part for me. Good luck!
