Muscle vs. Fat

I have a question. At what point during your weightloss journey, did you start to gain weight instead of losing it? I know at some point you start to gain muscle which weighs more, so i'm just curious when this happened for you guys? Ive been working out and dieting for a month now and it started off great, but I weigh myself alot (too much) which is bad, but i just like to see the changes. And lately it's gone up a little bit. Ive mainly done cardio workouts and ive taken 2 free weight classes at the gym. I can tell a change in muscle in my legs and calves and a little in my arms, but i've been doing this for a month already. Ive read that it happens at the very beginning for alot of people and they gain weight before they lose it, but it's been a month for me and i've lost a good amount of weight for one month. I just want to see if this is normal at this stage, or if I need to reevaluate my activities and things if it isn't normal. Thank in advance for any feedback!

I lost quite a bit of weight in my first two months. I was doing mainly cardio and kickboxing and then I got into weight training. I have actually gained two lbs in the last two weeks but I am continuously losing inches. I can tell the changes in my body yet the scale lingers. Its evil, dont trust it. Trust how you feel, how you see yourself in photos and how your clothes fit. Measure yourself in inches, not weight because you will drive yourself crazy. I have been weight training for two months and love it!! Keep up the weight training because you want that muscle girl!!0

Sorry to say but the muscle weighs more than fat theory is most probably not the reason you are not losing as fast as before......on a calorie deficit you do not build enough muscle for that to become an issue....
Suggest you look critically at what you are eating - are you as religious at logging a nd measuring as when you started....
Also as people commentednon your post yesterday a realistic expectation per week is 0.5 to 1 lbs per week - if you are lucky it might be a bit more each week, but it helps to be realistic - and then celebrate if it is a bit more......
If you keep on doing the right things the weight will come down - and in a year you will be a different person :-)0 -
I've commented on this a couple times, but what's one more.
When you're losing fat, you can safely lose 1-2 pounds a week if you try.
When you're working out really hard and have perfect nutrition, you can gain around 5 pounds of muscle a year, if you are an adult above the age of 20 or so. People 16-20ish years old can easily gain more than this, as they often put on more muscle than this during the tail end of adolescent development.
So I don't think the math will ever work out that you'll GAIN weight during any workout schedule, if you are still losing fat at the same time. Once you are at your desired bodyfat level, and maintain it, then you may start putting on half a pound a month, or so, of muscle.
What you often DO gain during heavy workout periods, is water weight, as your muscles will hold more water to aid in recovery from damage caused during these heavy workouts.
The other myth I dislike is that you can't gain muscle while losing fat. The bulk-cut cycle of folks who eat like pigs while exercising, then starving themselves to cut the fat they put on during the bulking cycle is harmful and unnecessary. Its easy to eat enough protein to gain muscle while remaining under your calorie limit for losing weight, if you eat from good sources of protein like chicken, turkey, fish, whey protein.0 -

I guess what i'm struggling to better understand is that in the long run I don't want to lose weight and be flabby with loose skin everywhere. I want to build muscle and lose weight. So if I can't build muscle at a calorie defecit on this plan, what would I need to do to do that? I mean how can I lose weight by eating a certain number of calories and gain muscle also? Sorry for being so difficult, i'm just really trying to better understand what I need to do to reach my goal which is mainly to be in shape.0
