Round 218
March 23 - April 1, 2023
Please join us starting on 3/23 for JUST GIVE ME 10 DAYS, when we will begin Round 218!
Anyone can join us at anytime during the round.
Join us! If we stay mindful we can do this, you can do this.
Welcome back past members, welcome new members, let's keep each other accountable for another 10 days!
Here is what you do: Post your daily weight and add little comments along the way of how your day went. You have only one hour to edit your post. Post everyday to let us know how you're doing! Copy and paste the days in your response--tell us how much you lost and other non scale victories (NSV) you'd like to share.
FOR NEWBIES - I find it easiest to copy the dates to a document or note in my device and edit it each morning. Then copy and paste to the message board. MFP will return you to the spot on the board where you left off on your previous visit which is nice to know if you like to scan all of the posts.

Yes, indeed. Tomorrow is the final weight for round 2017, which becomes my "start" weight for 2018. March 23rd will then be my first "weigh-in" and hopeful loss, for the round.
Enjoy the group! See you soon!2 -

Something really nice about these 10 day rounds is that every ten days I revisit and refocus on the lifestyle habit goals that every 10 days helps me focus in on.
Habits that have become second nature thanks to these rounds:
1. No ultra-processed foods, ever. Haven't had any since February 1 and I don't miss them. Ezekiel bread and things made fresh in my grocery store bakery taste better and are better for me than what's found in a box in the middle aisles. The ease of keeping up with this has been a pleasant surprise and has made grocery shopping much less stressful.
2. Added sugar only for special or especially delicious desserts. A usual weeknight can be satisfied with fruits as desserts. It's not a special celebration every single night.
3. Vegetables in every meal, even breakfast. Brussels sprouts fried with sweet potatoes and cabbage in a hash with an egg on top is so amazingly filling. I make it in big batches and reheat.
New habits I'm still working on but have gotten much better at:
1. Treat meat and dairy like seasonings and not the main affair (Mediterranean diet mindset). Very small amounts sliced thin can go a long way in a plant-based dish.
2. Practice using tofu as a low carb, low fat, and low calorie protein source. It's not as hard as I thought it would be but I've used it only a few times so I'm going to practice more this round. It's less work and faster than meat if I can just get the habit going. Avocado toast with fried tofu marinated in balsamic and rice vinegar...not a bad substitute if anyone has an egg allergy.
3. Keep practicing cooking without added fat. I've made potato and cabbage and Brussels sprouts hashes and some vegan curries with no added oil last round and I didn't feel deprived. Water is all they needed to cook down and the potato starch made it's own thick sauce. The vegetables fill me up and I've had no trouble meeting and exceeding my fiber goal with that way of cooking. I'm still getting plenty of fat from nuts and avocados. Anyone else tried Marcona almonds? My grocery store just started stocking them and I never want to go back to boring California almonds.
In summary, I'm going to keep pretending to be vegan until the end of March to get better at these habits. Veganizing all of my snacks and meals is meant to give my IBS a break and fast-track my learning and habit-building with the mostly whole foods plant-based way of eating. I haven't used any vegan substitutes like vegan cheese or vegan ice cream because that just defeats the purpose of practicing and defeats the health benefits. Tres leches cake is too delicious and obviously not vegan, but it's a special dessert and didn't derail my mostly vegan diet. So, maybe I could describe my diet right now as whole-foods and plant-based except for really good desserts? My digestive system is certainly grateful that I've given it a rest. I've never had a consistently not-bloated tummy and healthy TMIs in the morning for this long, ever. Sleep is also better than it's ever been. So, keep up trying to be as vegan as possible for the rest of March and see where that take me this round.8 -

Hi, I'm Charissa - Round 217
Thank you, again, @QuiltingJaine for hosting this challenge!
Just going to take it day by day.....again. Seemed to work in 217. I like the dates of this round and my goal is just to maintain. I will be on vacation for 4 days and it could go either way! The nice part is we usually eat at decent restaurants and technically, can't go back for seconds so there's the portion control. The challenge will be offerings of appetizers (guilty) desserts (it depends) and fancy drinks! BUT...there should be lots of walking so my goal is simply to maintain.

New here but going to give this a try! I'm struggling and so sick and tired of being sick and tired. I've recently decided to stop "dieting" and try to just stick with clean eating. It is going well so far, but I seem to be losing and gaining the same few pounds. I mostly just want to feel healthy but I have my niece's wedding coming up on July and will be seeing a lot of people I haven't seen in years and I really don't want to go fat π I'm hoping having some accountability here will get me more serious and motivated!

@itladyee I bought The Complete Mediterranean Cookbook from America's Test Kitchen after my doctor recommended it. The introduction to the book talks about the mindset and habits of the Mediterranean diet. I haven't made a single recipe from it yet, but reading all about the tenets of the diet helped inspire me to practice getting better at those habits with regular meals. It's like reorganizing the food pyramid to have vegetables and grains at the bottom and meat and dairy at the top.4

Am I posting this right? I did great January and February leading up to a vacation, now Iβm home and can not get back into good eating and regular exercise. My goal for the 10 days is to return to where I was in habits of daily food tracking, eating primarily Whole Foods, bring my weight down a βbitβ, drink my water and get back to my daily fitness.

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS: One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be as much as 2 lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.

4/01 Goal - lose 2 pounds
Bingeing is why I'm where I am now. I want to see the results with 100 days of no bingeing. I'm not talking about going over calories from overeating a little, I'm talking full-out bingeing. And that's not just on bad foods, even when I'm eating well, I'll binge. This will be extremely challenging but if I stick to it (and stay off sugar and simple carbs to stop cravings), there is no way I'm not going to see consistent weight loss during these 100 days (not to mention the health benefits)! Part of this challenge, too, is if I do have a slip, that I don't revert back to old habits of bingeing for days/weeks/months. I will acknowledge the slip, celebrate that it didn't derail me, and just keep on keeping on.I want to see what happens when I don't give up!100-day Binge-free Challenge starting March 6β¦.

I last used My Fitness Pal regularly in 2020 and it worked very well- I lost 30 lbs and was the happiest I had been in a while through a good balance of exercise, no snacking and self worth. Iβve gained 15 lbs back since a sports injury last year, but Iβm back and very grateful for this community since I know it works.

64 yr young F, 5ft 4 Round 218 (my 149th). As always, thank you. @QuiltingJaine you are a star!
Goal for this round; again I'm not looking at a specific number, any loss and keep my binge free streak going β it is helping me keep mindful when Iβm tempted! Keep within calories & macros. I can do this but, consistency is paramount, letβs do it again for just 10 days as the reward is great!!Achieved goal weigh of 125lb in summer 2016 by losing 66lb and then gradually gained between 7 and 11 since then & didn't want to gain any more, Itβs taken me 75 rounds to achieve my under 130 target; back to maintenance again!! But then I crept up again, so need to get back to around 130. Healthy life style has to be a permanent way of life.3/22 137.8 β 11.53 miles walked, 1/3 exercise calories eaten back. A gain of 1.2 pounds which is disappointing, I have been supper hungry this round, but I have been binge free for the whole 10 days again, which is a brill. NSV for me. Iβll just keep marching on!!

GIVE ME 10 DAYS β ROUND 218
Round 218
March 23 β April 1, 2023
61 year old female, 5β5β. I am married, semi-nomadic (we live in three states, Mass, Maine, Florida).
Goal for round 218. So round 217, I reached an intermediate goal of getting down to below 135, which is back to where I was at last April (almost exactly a year) when my daughter, SIL, DGS came to visit us in the keys. Wearing a swimsuit in the pool with grandson is going to be more comfortable for me than it was going to be, and for that I am grateful. 218 is going to include a few challenges starting with traveling up to my MILβs for two days to pick up DD and family, then we drive back down to our place and they stay with up til the end of round 218, April 1st. My goal is going to be to try and enjoy balance for the round. Maybe no loss, and hopefully no gain. I will exercise when and how I can, and I will track, and at a minimum be thoughtful, what I eat during the round. Fingers crossed!!
History:
Harry and Han are our cats, who travel with us. Have two βkidsβ, who are very much adults, and a DGS. We have three parents, 88(father), 86(mother), 84(MIL) still with us, and I have logically been needing to help them more as they age. I got my act in gear during COVID, somewhat inspired by NOT becoming my parents. I lost 30 lbs and was exercising daily. Unfortunately, I am an βall in or notβ person. Selling family home distractions, plus medical incident with my father and all their new needs, became an excuse. A year and a half later, I gained 25 lbs and lost all my athletic improvements. I need to figure out balance and how to make health be a daily priority for life!

3/23 β 134.6 Not surprised in the least AND not concerned. Yesterday, I started with a faster pace solo walk that turned into a group walk around mile 4. Then, when I got home, hubby wanted to clean our screened balcony. I crawled all 500 sq ft of it, using a whisk broom to remove the dried dirt so his following with a mop was more effective. Not sure how the dirt develops, but it forms on the screens and when it rains it washed the dirt onto the tile floor (last rain was about 5 weeks ago). My knees were black and I wore the skin off my left knee. THEN, hubby wanted us to go do some landscaping on the condo property grounds, that we had talked about. Goal was to remove leaves, trash and debris behind a 70 ft hedge, along a wall. Guess who got to be BEHIND the hedge. That somehow gave quite a workout to my right butt check and thigh. To finish the day off, we tried a local Japanese/Thai restaurant for dinner. Yum! Between likely fluid retention in my muscles, and likely from sodium in the dinner, I fully expected a gain. Calories were not over, so not concerned. Oh, yes, I did not neglect the cats, they got their evening walk once we got home from the restaurant.
