I have a mini trampoline, I do step ups on it for 20 to 30 minutes for a good butt lift cardio workout lol... just wondering how to count it... under the exercise database it says step ups vigorous, how do you guys determine if it is a vigorous workout or a mild workout? Help plz! :)

If I'm going as fast as possible and my heart feels like it's about to explode, it's vigorous. If I'm going at a steady pace where I don't feel like I NEED to stop to breathe, then it's moderate. Or, if I can talk while working out, it's moderate.

you cannot talk well exercising... if you are close to out of breath preventing you from having a conversation you are doing vigorous exercise

Can you talk when you're doing it? Do you get sweaty? Do you feel your heart rate climb? Do you feel you could go longer but don't because that's the time you allot yourself for your workout? For a vigorous workout you should be breathing hard but not shallowly, your heart rate should be up there, you should be pretty damn sweaty and not able to carry on a casual conversation.

anythings vigorous for me because i barely work out so any work out seems like major effort even if its like 5 min. haha. sad.

Can you talk (have a conversation not just a word or two) well doing it? if so moderate, if not vigorous

Vigorous is anything that gets your heart rate up.

This is what I base my criteria on, just needed some opinions...thanks guys! it just seems like a lot of calories to burn doing something so simple like step ups, although they do kick my butt!!! OK great... again thanks all.
  • If I can't talk to someone trying to talk to me it's vigorous. I have 3 kids and usually can't get through a workout without having to fuss or talk to one of them so if I have to tell them "wait" in an exhausted breath then it's vigorous.
