Carbs Vs Calories????

I am struggling with the carbs intake vs calorie intake. I am usually over on my carbs by at least 30g when I try to eat at least 1200 calories a day. Is it better to be over on your carbs & be at 1200 calories (My Daily Goal with 200 extra exercise calories is 1400 calories) or is it better to be under your carbs & under 1200 calories (I usually end up at 1000 calories a day when I do this)?
I learned recently in my nutrition class im taking that when you are over on carbs it just turns into fat making weight lose more difficult, but I also heard that anything under 1200 calories a day will hurt my weight lose at well. So which is the lesser of the 2 evils?!?!
How many carbs over is too many?!?! I am trying to lose 2 lbs a week. I need to loose 50 pounds more to be at 120. Any advice would be TERRIFIC!!!! Thank you!

if you are in a caloric deficit they won't be stored as fat, you should ask your nutrtion teacher under what circumstances de novo lipogenesis actually occurs.
And assuming your ticker is correct, you could prob be losing weight eating more then 1200 cals, you could prob cut on ~1700ish0 -
What he said. ^
Excess calories over your maintenance levels convert to fat, regardless of where the calories come from (carbs, fat, or protein.) At a calorie deficit, calories are not stored as fat, because you're actually using more than you eat. Plus, being "over" in a particular macro is totally subjective, because the macro percentages can be adjusted. I change mine constantly.
Total calories are what matters.0 -
Both above posters are correct. Granted some people have insulin issues and that can cause problems, but being a healthy individual more carbs less carbs it won't matter. Make sure to eat a fair amount of protein. And what acg said 1200 cals seems a little low for you. Google how to calculate your caloric needs. These will be a little more accurate. Once you figure your caloric needs subtract what you want for your deficit .. 1200 is a low number . My wife eats about 1300 a day and weighs close to 115 lbs, and she is still losing.0
