I've recently started babysitting and thinking of having a family myself, and I find that the "kid food" my cousin keeps in her fridge just doesn't appeal to me at all, plus I'm constantly watching her daughter and I forgot to eat completely today. What are your tips for eating healthy with little ones around, especially if you don't control what's in the fridge? Bring your own lunch? I guess? I feel weird eating out of other people's fridges anyway.

When I'm goin somewhere I won't have food (visiting friends outta town) I'll grocery shop before I head there, or make a meal there.
If it's travelling or at work, I'll blend my meals into a shake. Added fruit, peanutbutter, yogurt, etc til I hit what I think my calories should be. I can make a 1000 calorie shake last 8 hours or so.0 -
I don't eat at other peoples houses, out of their fridge/cabinets. It makes me feel awkward. I bring a granola bar with me everywhere, just incase I get hungry before I leave.
Being there all day, bringing a lunch would be a good idea.0 -
You could always bring homemade soup, or leftovers to heat. Bring healthy snacks and teach the kids sometimes, it might be good!0

My kids eat what I eat. I cook one meal for all of us and if they don't like it then they don't eat. I encourage them to try a little of everything and they do. I've found healthy versions of all of the 'kid food' that they like (like chicken nuggets) but they eat my homemade, whole grain bread. I make their granola bars. They eat Greek yogurt and steamed veggies. As for going to someone else's house, I would take my lunch but that's mostly because I eat a certain way and I'm kind of a snob about it.0

stay away from the mac n cheese... actually the best advice I have is to keep a ziploc baggy. the moment you catch yourself about to snack on the ragrats snack, throw it into the baggy. weigh said ziploc at the end of the week. consider yourself safe from those evil calories. Mindless eating is the devil:devil:
Healthy snacks... nuts (the ones child can't eat), hard salami, apples... oh and a good stash of vodka in the flask.0 -
Super portable stuff like a bag of baby carrots, jerky, nuts work well too.
Sometimes I put dry oats in a shaker cup, cinnamon, sweetner (occasionally whey) and just eat it outta the cup. Texture is terrible, but while travelling its simple enough, and I don't make poor choices due to lack of options.0 -
Get a little cooler and bring it0

Try making something called a Bento. They're fun and cute lunches that are healthy and SUPER kid friendly. Bento's generally consist of a main food (entree) a side dish (half the size of the entree) a second side dish (half the size of the other side) and a dessert (same size as the second side dish)
The entree can consist of pasta or something kid friendly (chicken nuggets, mini pb&J's), side dish one usually is some sort of vegetable (carrot sticks), side dish two I usually put crackers or cheese cubes and the dessert is like a hard candy or gummy bears. I know if you google the word bento you can get some idea's (bento recipes) and also see some extravagant pictures of them.
I hope this helps.0
