I've tried just about everything even the acai berry and colon cleanse that bunged me up for 2 days so took Dulcolax.. spent hour and half going back and forth to loo this morning and when got on scales was only 11st 9 I was thrilled... I should have got straight on wii to record it but as it was only 1.30am and I hadn't had any sleep yet I decided to get a few hours.. do a 5am workout to see if I could sweat off the last 2 lbs and get down to 11st 7.

Got up at 5.. went on wii to record my 11st 9 but it had gone back up to 12 st 1 i was gutted!

Tried the capsiplex and T3 trick to burn more when exercising gets me burning hot in 10 mins and i had clingfilm round waist, sauna belt on top of that and bin liner on top of that... exercised from about 5.30 when got started as controller on first game wasnt responding properly (EA Active) so had to go back to wii fit as I was losing my burn.. stopped at 6.50am... undressed and was wet through though I must have lost some water and got back on scales and still 12st 1.

I've tried eating more calories My weight went up form 11st 10 to 12 st again, I've tried keeping it under 1200 and been exercising 3 times a day since I got the new games so I never stop moving all day.

I feel like I've failed now and I don; t deserve any food so trying water and ensure for the day today see if I can shock body by liquid only for a day...

I don't know what else I can do as I'm so limited physically in what I can do.

Only thing that got me down from 12st 7 was cos I got some T3 off ebay and was taking it on top of my prescribed T4 but then had to get a blood test and it came out too high.. managed to convince doctor over phone I'm better on high side of normal and I'd sue if they lowered again and left me more disabled but I'm supposed to go back october for another blood test so I have to be careful how much extra I take and stop it completely a week before... its the only thing so far thats resulted in weight loss other than the water tablets worked well the first time also and I lost 7lbs in a few days.

Dunno how else to get past this... eating isn't working, not eating isn't working, exercising isn't working??????

Could there be a medical reason I just can't seem to lose weight? I'm pushing my body as hard as it can physically go, (till my muscles just shake from all the exercising) but seem to be going round in circles every month with same bit of weight up and down. I don't understand why the weights not dropping off?

Sounds like a lot of floundering about looking for miracle cures. Why not simplify? Find a simple eating plan that includes at least 3 meas a day and a realistic exercise routine. Your body may be reacting to all this fad diet/cleanses/etc... by holding onto every calorie it can. Also be patient. Nothing happens over night. In fact based on all you have written, I wouldn't look for your body to change for at least a month. consistency is key.

  • Pooping your brains out will not make you lose weight. Calories in vs calories out is the only way to permanently lose weight. Eat less (but not too little) and move more. The end. Sorry if that sounds mean but I tend to go toward the tough love approach. Slow and steady wins in the end. Quick fixes will just leave you unhealthy, dehydrated and eventually right back where you started. Input your activity level and let MFP's calculator figure out your daily caloric needs and then start an exercise program. Swimming, gardening, just get out and move. You can do this!

You're pushing way too hard. Stop and take a breath. All the cling film, laxative type gimmicks do nothing - you'll dehydrate. Then gain it back when you drink. And for goodness sake step away from the scales - they're making you crazy. It does really sounds like you're the person from whom the 'weigh once a week' maxim was invented.

Use the tools on here to work out what your daily calorie intake should be. Eat plenty of Veg. exercise moderately. Expect a loss of a pound or so a week. Be nice to yourself and stop trying to torture your body into submission.

I know the calories out should be more than calories in.. I've been burning at least 500a day and eating less.. so that theory hasn't worked or it would have dropped off.

I had set mine to 2lb a week and it gives me 1200 calories but my BMR at 11st 12 was 13oo and something.. I think I should work it out again from 12st 1 but I can't remember how to get to that page and to change it to 1lb a week loss to see if that works better?

It maybe just water cos my monthlies are usually due first week of every month and will be october next week or week after.. bit early but they are irregular so sometimes come twice in one month if its a 5 week month.

I've been doing so well in the other areas though I just can't understand why the weight hasn't gone down.. for example my tummy has gone down from 48" around widest part to 40 " and my waist from 38" to 35.5 ".. so all the sweating and working out has done something!

Its also first time since before I had to go in a wheelchair I've managed to exercise for 2 hours non-stop even though they are quite easy low intensity exercises compared to what you guys will be able to do. .. I'm fitter in that respect than I was this time last year. I can sit for longer in manual chair without getting severe back pain and it taking 2 days to recover from an afternoon or evening out. .. I'm looking forward to been able to manage a xmas shopping and lunch out trip with a friend from my uni days this month or next... and cos I have lost the inches I should be able to get in those trousers for xmas day.

I was just expecting the numbers on the scales to go down as easily as the inches have.

by the way.. erm MILAXX i love those pink trainers on your pic and ticker.. do you know where they sell them by any chance? and CRYSTAL.. T3 and T4 is thyroid hormones that your thyroid makes (mine's never worked from birth so have to take medications)

I know it's really hard to work out when you're a wheelchair user, and it's great that you're managing that. But don't sabotage your efforts by essentially dehydrating yourself. You just don't need to do that.

I gain about three pounds with PMT, so yes, that could be the issue. But also if you're regularly dehydrating with these kinds of techniques (laxatives dehydrate too), you're going to be holding water - because that's what your body reflexively does when you lose too much water. Similarly, unaccustomed exercise will make you hang on to water too. Try drinking plenty of water for a few days. And be good to yourself.

I agree wholeheartedly with the advice you have been gettingin this thread, but what I would add is that perhaps you need to go back and have a look at what you eat as well as how much you eat. I find that my weight loss has been a lot more effective since I went back to basics. Get a good balance. I try to have lean protien, low or non fat dairy and slow release carbs such as oats and plenty of veg. I cook from scratch with fresh ingredients whenever I can, that way I can control what goes into my body in a good way.

Also do you do any strengh excercises other than the wii? I know you are limited in what you can do, but you perhaps try some upper body weight training - you know, the excercises on the EA Sport but with some dumbells (not suggesting you lift 20k tho  ) I have some 2k weights and use them a couple of times a week and I find that really helps with defining my waist.

I do go on a bit about this, but could you do some basic Pilates? It makes a HUGE difference to your core muscles and the basic 'zipping up' of the tum can be done standing in a bus queue or sitting down even. I had a huge saggy belly after my kids, even when my weight was in normal range; that was even when the youngest was 15. Not so now, although there is still a bit of a pouch, my belly looks good in a shift dress without any magic undies.

    Hi

Thanks.. I think EA sports has pilates or it maybe the exerbeat one. I started with the EA sports but teh controller wasn't responding even though I was doing same as person on the screen so switched back to wii fit as I didn't want to lose 'my burn' from the capsiplex I had just taken.

I did have a look at that though when it arrived the other day and remember seeing 'Pilates' in one of the menu's, but they both arrived at once so can't remember which disk I saw it on.. lol!

I can probably manage the floor exercises as I don't have to worry about keeping balance when I'm laid on my back or front on floor.

I do also use a sensory balance belt I got from US that helps me with my balance (I have Ataxia it affects my balance and co-ordination of muscles)

I'm not very safe with weights due to some involuntary movements I tend to let go of things when I didn't mean to which is why I can't walk outside without supervision with walking aids. I did get some little hand ones with the wii fit yoga mat, drinks bottle and towel set. The say 2LB on the side.. I have hit myself on head a few times trying to do the tricep extension on wii fit.. lol!. In the interest of head injuries I daren't risk any higher weight!!

I'm doing quite well on the Boxercise on Exerbeat as it only seems to register what movements your arms are doing with the 2 wii remotes so I can do that from sitting and that makes my arms ache and sweat a bit, can even do a few of the Karate and dance ones too. That also has an aerobics section with some floor exercises but I haven't unlocked them all yet.

What other kind of strength exercises are they? do resistance bands count? cos I can do some of those on the EA sports one I was having a go at those yesterday i just lie on floor and put band under feet and pull up instead of doing it from standing!

My tummy is bit flabby too I'm considering buying the zaggora hot pants which were mentioned on here too.
