Long time user of MFP, but haven’t posted to the community in years.

Hello all - as the post title states, I have used MFP fairly consistently for a long time, but I was only a community member for a few months about 4 years ago.

I am a Personal Trainer (NASM), an amateur Strongman (currently competing at a local level), and a full time student (Biology).

I have 14 year history with fitness, running, lifting, nutrition, and anything health related, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been without my struggles. After snapping out of a depression and losing 70lbs + through tracking 4.5 years ago, I’ve monitored my weight pretty well and done tracking cuts where necessary. I currently compete as a 220lb athlete and walk around at about 230.

Anyway, I figured I’d join the community and engage in conversation when I have free time.

Hi RWS. I'd love to hear more about what it takes to be a strongman.

I’m only in my second year so I’m still pretty green at this, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

That said as a 220lb athlete it takes About 3000-4000 calories a day (clean calories too), about 10-12 hours of training per week, and around 1.5-2 hours a week dedicated to active recovery, as well as regular weekly rehab/prehab work. I

It’s definitely a very time consuming sport, and due to the demands placed on the body, all other active hobbies take a backseat - I only get to do them a few times a year when I’m in between competition prep.
