I just found out last week that I am pregnant. What do you think my weight gain goal should be set at per week? .5lbs? I already was above where I needed to be weight wise, so I am worried about gaining too much during pregnancy. Help needed from any Moms out there!

That's wonderful! I don't have any recommendations but just wanted to say congrats!!! :flowerforyou:
  • Honestly this is a question that you need to ask your doctor when you go to your next prenatal appointment. I would just really focus on making sure you get the right nutrients and vitamins. Don't focus on calories as much as you should focus on proper nutrition for your growing little bundle. Congrats!!
  • I personally just let loose during pregnancy and pick back up after I have the baby. I only gained 16lbs with my first and 31lbs with my second. Not too bad for letting go.

Congrats!! And lucky you! I'm stuck late and with negatives (has never happened in my life!)
  • Congratulations! The best thing to do would be consult your obstetrician about your weight goals. The most important thing is to get sufficient nutrition for yourself and your baby, and to stay active.
Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy!

Congrats. I would just set yourself at maintenance and then add about 200-250 extra calories. That is all you need extra. Don't eat for two. I lost weight during my first 3 months and then gained after that. If you are overweight, your doc will recommend gaining less.

    taken from webmd:
A woman of average weight before pregnancy should gain 25 to 35 pounds during pregnancy. Underweight women should gain 28-40 pounds during pregnancy. Overweight women may need to gain only 15-25 pounds during pregnancy. You may need to gain more or less weight, depending on what your health care provider recommends.

It is not necessary to "eat for two" during pregnancy. It's true that you need extra calories from nutrient-rich foods to help your baby grow, but you generally need to consume only 100 to 300 more calories than you did before you became pregnant to meet the needs of your growing baby.

I just went through this. When pregnant the best thing you can do is eat healthy and try not to just eat BC you feel like it. Make a conscious decision to only eat when you are actually hungry. You can't really set an amount of weight each week BC your body is not only gaining baby but placenta and Your blood volume will increase which will also add weight. Over my last pregnancy I gained 23 lbs and had a 7 lb 1 oz baby and list the rest of that weight within 4 weeks after my baby was born. Limiting yourself too much can be bad for the baby and most important you want a healthy baby! Congratulations and good luck!

Only you and your OB can decide on weight goals during pregnancy. The most important this you must do immediately is get on a prenatal vitamin that has folic acid in it. Over-the-counter vits are fine.

Congrats! Staying active and eating healthy is actually extremely good for the baby. It promotes the right growth and nutrition absorption. Being pregnant gives you hormones you don't normally have that can aide in the losing of body fat which is healthier for the baby and then after you have it, you have less to lose. Being pregnant isn't an excuse to let yourself go. You should actuallly think MORE about what you put in your body.

You shouldn't be concerned with calories. Just eat healthy and speak to your doctor if you are concerned.

Congratulations!!! I'm with everyone else, let your OB tell you what you should gain.

With my first pregnancy, I gained 50 lbs. as I was eating all the time. YIKES!! With my second pregnancy, I lost 9 lbs due to being on a special diet as I was a gestational diabetic. The important thing is to focus on good health. Your body and your OB will tell you what you need.

First child for you? Any names you love already??
