Time for a change

I am beginning a new life style change. Making healthier choices and wanting to add some excercise in my life. Right now I am starting with walking everyday for 1 hour. Does anyone have any tips or advice for a obese workout beginning ?

That’s great you are doing that. I’m trying to get a walk in a few days a week. Just so tired after work…Counting the calories is definitely helping tho.

Walking is the best thing you can be doing. Look into joining a gym at some point to maintain muscle mass.

An hour of walking a day. As someone who has done a triathlon that is so impressive. I can't run anymore due to ankle injury, but I just can't find the motivation to walk. I miss putting on my head banging music and going for a run. Bores me to death. Thus i have now put on a heap of weight and terribly unfit. Got the food back on track but just cant find the motivation to exercise. So Great job hun. Maybe a bit of weights would be good too.

Walking and moving more is the best thing you can do right now. It's low impact and it provides a good foundation for anything else and is something that you should take with you and continue to do regularly as your fitness advances.

As workouts go...I think there's this very common misconception that if you aren't working it to death then you aren't working it. For the most part, the people that I know in real life that tend to be very healthy and fit are just active people and most of their "exercise" is active recreation. I would put myself in that category at this point as I have "retired" from endurance cycling and the training that goes along with it...now I'm just active. I walk my dog daily, I hike regularly, I road ride regularly, I mountain bike regularly, I do some kayaking in the warmer months, skiing in the winter, etc. The only real "workout" I do at this point is 3x per week in the weight room.

At this point I'd just focus on walking. If you're not accustomed to moving a whole lot, an hour per day is going to be a "workout"...so just build up from there. At some point I would mix in some resistance training as part of a well rounded fitness regimen. If you're so inclined, you can also start to add in 2-3 days of more moderately stressful cardio to your walking.
