Just use the free version. I have used it and successfully lost weight. There is no real need for the paid one unless you really need some of the specific features. For that matter, if you cannot afford the paid version, even if you would like the extra features, do spend money you can't afford and use the free version as it has all you need.3

Yeah, I agree. I've used the free version since 2007.
Lost 80 pounds.
I didn't have a fitbit or other "tracking" device. I just tracked food and my weight.
I'm still at that healthy weight, haven't gained any back.
The free version is all you need.4
