Introduction

Good morning. I am new to the MyFitnessPal and am excited to get to know anyone willing to talk. I really need someone to talk to and will support me during this time and even after I lose the weight. I have no one to support me, so am hoping to get to know everyone trying to lose as I am. As time goes on, you will get to know me better. Thank you for your time.

Hello there. I was saddened to read you don’t have anyone to support you, so I felt compelled to respond. I am brand new to this as well. Just signed up yesterday, via my music coach/fitness coach. Lol. He put this app on my phone & showed me how to use it & start on this new journey. I’m tired of feeling tired, carrying all this extra weight around! I’m ready for the person hiding inside all these years to come out! I will gladly be here to support you &talk ! We all need that. I am very blessed to have a lot of support so I’m happy to share my encouragement & friendship to others. You are not alone! Blessings & love from Maine. ❤️

Hi to you both. I am not new to myfitnesspal. I've been on again off again for years. Mostly off. I'm back and hopefully will stick with it because I really need to get serious and lose weight. This is the first time I am writing and as I read your posts, I felt I'd like to be part of this support - to give and to receive. An encouraging word for you and myself today, "Every journey begins with a single step". Have a blessed and joy-filled day.

    Welcome to MFP, @Ltlgrey59

I’m guessing from your user ID that you’re older, like me. I started here in late 2018, and have lost about 40% of my total starting body weight.

The best support I got was from these boards, asking questions, participating, and eventually providing help to those even newer than me.

My MFP “friends” are helpful and motivating now, but hands down, it was these boards that got - and kept- the ball rolling.

My husband supported me- once he saw I was serious, and eventually he joined me here.

Otherwise, our kids are thousands of miles away, and tbh I didn’t even tell them, in case I failed. Maybe not such a good idea in retrospect, as one was briefly convinced I was secretly terminally ill as being the only reason I could have lost that much weight.

I’m going to be honest. I think “local” support is overrated, outside of immediate family. Our friends, coworkers, bunco pals, etc really don’t care. If they notice at all, they worry they look bad as you look “better”. They don’t want to hear your tales of eating better for the same reason.

Even immediate family can be unsupportive, or downright sabotage, based on my experience and others I’ve read here.

That sounds very Debbie Downer, but honestly, your best support is here- people going through the same thing you are, in the same fashion, counting calories, learning to get off the couch, and so on.

I sincerely hope we’ll see you active here on the boards, where we will smother you with support, lol.

    Hugs!

Thank you all of you. Yes I do need the support as my husband doesn't believe I will do it. You see, I have worked all my life in retail and several years ago I had to have surgery on my ankle. After that surgery I started having problems with my knees. Now I can't get around very well due to my knees, ankle and back. But I believe that if I can find a way to lose, I can get around a lot better. My first goal is to be able to walk around the stores again and shop without using the riding cart. Anyhow, I am looking forward to getting to know you all.
