Plastic Surgery in Mexico

Has anyone had any experience with Mexican plastic surgery? I've read that Guadalajara is the new place to go for inexpensive and skilled plastic surgeons. Breast augmentation and tummy tucks for less than $4000 each. To good to be true?

    I wouldn't get surgery where I couldn't even drink the water.

    I would not go out of country for any kind of plastic surgery.

    Edit: Unless it was life threatening and the doctor was renowned across the world. And in that case it wouldn't be done on a budget :/

    I would do the research and be very careful about it. I went with my mom to Mexico to get a procedure done (lap band surgery) and I was completely horrified when she first started talking about it. But she had done the research and her surgeon was certified and had actually helped pioneer the technique and taught it to doctors in the US. Just remember that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

    I would not ever do that. Just remember any traveler's insurance and private medical insurance will not cover it, so if something goes wrong there or when you return you are footing the bill in the end and might as well gotten it done in your own country.

    I just recently had plastic surgery (in the states), but in my research, I came across a doctor in monterray--dr. Sauceda. He seems to have very good reviews. His pricing isn't that much cheaper than in the states, though. I also fear the violence in Mexico.

    I dunno, I went in once to get a wisdom screw extracted, and I walked out of there with a missing penis and a D cup.

    THIS! A friend went to South America to get a breast augmentation that went wrong. And she got screwed in terms of recompensation for the errors during her surgery/ recovery that were the fault of the doctor/medical staff there. AND she will have to pay for a second surgery to fix the original mistakes out of her own pocket.

    I lived in Guadalajara for 4 months. They do have good doctors there. It is a very modern city and I even saw a doctor myself while down there (not a plastic surgeon). Just do your research like you would here. If you know someone who lives there, that could be very helpful.

    Note on the drinking water thing: they don't typically drink their own water and most drink filtered/bottled water themselves. Most kitchens in middle to upper class homes in Guad have built-in water filters.

    If you are going to help "improve" your appearance, money should NOT be an option. You look for deals on clothes and shoes....NOT on any kind of surgery.

    I'm Mexican and I would more readily put my life on a good Mexican doctor than on an American one. Doctors in many other countries are better prepared than in here. This is my experience after 10 years in the US.

    Funny. You grew up thinking you can drink from a faucet, me being Mexican grew up KNOWING that water from the faucet is NOT good to drink. I irk at YOUR people drinking water from the faucet... hehe

    Yeah it goes to show how much propaganda can get into peoples heads...

    I love to travel and eat and drink foods all over as many times it is fresher rather than shipped clear across the country or loaded with chemicals. Just me though! Happy dieting!

    I barely want to drink tap water from anywhere... I will from home because its good.. but when I go out, I try not to. So propaganda or not... I still wouldnt do it. lol

    I will share my friend's story

    she went to guadalajara for a tummy tuck and butt lift.

    she came back with a massive infection that opened up her entire incision line. All of the tissue around the scar died...they had to cut it out. Then...her temperature spiked due to a staph infection. Very serious! she was in and out of the hospital for 2 months after the surgery. her scars are horrible and painful. and her health insurance won't cover the after care due to it being done out of the country.

    SOMEONE told her not to go.....

    I personally know of several ladies on another weight loss board who have been to Monterrey, Mexico for plastic surgery. Most of them had the lower body lift and/or tummy tuck, and breast lift and augmentation. A few had thigh lifts and/or butt augmentation. All of them after losing anywhere from 100 to 200 plus lbs. Their experiences were all good and their surgeon came highly recommended via other American referrals. I'd just do my research and be careful.

    I am planning on having plastic surgery when I lose the last 20 lbs of my excess weight, after I have been that weight for awhile. I am definitely considering using a doctor in Monterrey. Its half the cost of what it would be here, it includes the airfare to and from, and you get 10-14 days of private care in your own suite at the hospital after the surgery. Not like the US, where you are out and on your own 2-3 days after surgery for twice the money. BUT - I am considering that after care would have to be done here and there is always the risk of infection and complications from any surgery. You may want to check and see what your insurance covers. Personally, my insurance will cover complications/infection/sickness no matter what the cause, surgery in another country, car accident, whatever.

    absolutely-GUADALAJARA
    DEFINITELY--100%
    I had rhino in states totally messed up BADLY i PAID 5000 HERE AND result was horrible--I ended up in guadaljara--wallah
    best rhino ever $800--eyelift--1000-came with nurse over night and best doctor ever
    I didnt go crazy went back 4 times--tummy tuck $1000
    year later not the best job --
    facelift--5000
    i spent 6000 on everything---no anesthsia cost--you have some expense for blood work that's it
    add your hotel and flight --hotel shop around I found people that took care of me
    I did them in 2 yrs not all surgery in one shot --i think your body needs to heal--


    they are not easy--nose was tuff--you can't breathe first night
    eyelid is really tuff-can't open eyes
    tummy tuck is tuffest--can't bend or up for a while so you got to be willing and tuff
    I did lots of research and took my time--
    I got best care and best doctors

    best advice be open minded--go with your intuition I interviewed 20 doctors over years
    spent time and went to each office and interviewed them
    looked at pics

    I GOT BEST RESULT AT END
    I have had 2 procedures in state--each time I got a minor problem--over there-nothing
    even one came to state and removed stiches

    i say go for it
    but dont be prejudice take your time and interview and go with your eyes and your brain--dont listen to anyone's ---
    very nice and got to be nice back and friendly and educated they love you
    ask questions

    I didnt go crazy and did one surgery each time--takes time for each to heal and I say go for it
    dont be a smoker
    take care
    eat good b4 and after surgery
    be conservative and dont party for a while after
    i TRAVELED INSIDE MEXICO--I DIDNT DO TJ 0BORDER LINE
    I WENT ALONE AND DID IT
    no internet research or anything like that
    took bus from one doc to another--i bargained
    and I even found a place adn someone to take care of me

    but you have to be nice and friendly and be OPENMINDED--and adventurous
