discrepancy between step trackers

This is bugging me so much. My husband's phone and fitbit both are logging his steps at an astronomical rate given his activity level. Yesterday he supposedly got 9000 steps without leaving the house, and our house isn't that big!

Last week we spent the entire day together, other than I left him to find a bathroom and walked probably a few blocks more than he did. His tracker at the end of the day said 7,000 and mine said 3,500.

Does anyone have any idea how this is possible? I think he is getting double steps somehow. Given it is both his fitbit and his phone (apple health) is even more confusing.

What are you using to track your steps? Do you have a watch or a Fitbit as well or just the phone?

I use my iphone. He has a very old fitbit that hangs on his belt and an iphone and an apple watch.

Old fitbits #1 function was tracking steps. I bought last years model "Inspire 2" on ebay for $20 USD.

All watch based step counters are probably less than 1% off.

Before fixing his situation, you could improve yours a lot with a fitbit.

I find that my phone isn't the most accurate in counting my steps. It doesn't always register, but, also, I don't always have it on me. There is a chance that you lost even up to 3,500 steps depending on how often you put your phone down.
If both his watch and fitbit are logging around the same count, it could be that you're missing steps.
