I like it, it really seems do-able. Unfortunately, I tore my calf muscle just a few days in to week one, but I am looking forward to starting it again when I am healed!

Lots of people on here have done it or are doing it. I liked it but I can't speak for anyone else.

If you do a search, you will probably find numerous discussions about it and be able to see what many people think.

    Good luck!

If you are referring to the Couch Potato to 5K training program from coolrunning.com than yes.

    http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

It is a great program. when you first start out, you may be tempted to do more, because it seems so easy. WARNING - do not. If you follow the plan to the letter, it will get you where you need to be in the allotted amount of time. Do not deviate from it.

    Hi

I have been doing this on and off since the beginning of the year!! My fault as I seem to get distracted and recently I have been injured! I am determined that I will graduate C25K befor the end of the year. The longest I have run using this programme is 20 mins didnt think I would ever be able to do that!!

Good luck let us know how you get on.

    K xx

I have done this, and although I'm far from being quick enough to do 5k in 30 minutes, I can run for 30 minutes. I couldn't run for 60 seconds when I started and I do think it's definitely helped with my weight loss.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!!! I WANNA PLAY IF YA DO THIS!!:)) Is there a group on here to start it??
I was a runner until 2004 when I moved to Colorado and was laid up with West Nile virus for 6 months.... lost my run, gained lots of weight and am needing to run again. Currently, because of weight, I'm doing the elliptical like a mad woman but running is my passion!:)

I forgot all about the couch to 5K... these are the same people that wrote a book and helped me complete my first (and only) half marathon in 2001!!!:) Let me know if anyone wants to start this!:))

i LOVE this program, my boyfriend and i have been doing it for a few months now, we've had to repeat weeks as needed to get the stamina to go on, so be sure to go at your own pace! we're about to start week 6 and i NEVER thought i'd be able to run for 20 minutes without stopping, but i can! granted, its probably slower than just walking when i jog, but i have all the time in the world to work on my speed!

    Do it!
  • I just finished week 2 and I love it! It really is a good start to running if you fell off the running wagon or were just never really a runner. I like it because it hasn't been so hard that I want to quit. and I feel awesome when I complete a run! You should definitely try it out.

Just completed week 6 using the iPhone app 5K Runner, and I'm really enjoying it. Just do what you can do, push yourself when you need to, and make sure you have proper footwear. And especially don't listen to the voices in your head that say you can't! I'm proof anyone can!

Thank you everyone! I downloaded the app for my blackberry and will try it out. I don't know about trying this at the gym on the treadmill so I'll start out in my neighborhood. :) Thanks again for all of your input!!!!

I really like it....I never thought I could run that long, but it is do-able...every week I thought 'There is no way I can run that long'...but I did..I don't know how, I guess your body just does it.
don't be afraid to re-do a week if you really feel you are not ready to move on..but also don't be afraid to push yourself to the next level. I was totally amazed at what I could do. Find a friend to do it with so you can push each other to keep going. Good Luck!!

Totally agree!! I started Day one of Week 9 today (yay!!) and I had to go into it with this attitude. I've done C25k a couple of times before and did more than I was supposed to and then burned out. It doesn't just physically condition you to run, it also MENTALLY gets you to where you need to be. Its definitely a process.

I am 1 run away from graduating the program! WOOT!
When I started, I thought I'd die before the 1 minute run was over. Now I'm running 5k every time I go out for a run. It has really helped get my weight loss going, and my legs are looking awesome!

    You can do it!

I'm thinking about starting this soon. For those who have done it, do you think it would be ok for a dog to join you on the program?? Obviously I would have to make sure I'm not working the lump too hard, but I think we're about equal in the (lack of) fitness stakes.

I'm finishing up right now. I'm on week 5. I love it. I would highly suggest downloading one of the podcasts to an ipod or mp3 because it really helps so you can run and not try to think about the time. Also really take your time and build up to a brisk walk during your warm up walk. Stop and stretch if you need to. You might also want to go longer on the final walk as well. Follow the every other day schedule and if you need to repeat a workout, do so. I repeated week 4. Listen to your body and run your own race. Sometimes I see other people running and I'm tempted to speed up but I know I'm not there yet. I save my speed for the last run for that day instead. Make sure you stretch really good after as well. That's pretty much all I can think of. Feel free to ask me any questions. Q

    Do it!
I started running using C25K in January and in August I ran a12k race and now I'm training for a half marathon.... which just proves that nothing is impossible :)

    My tips:

Get good shoes and a sports bra
    Take rest days
Run slow, really slow if you need to.
Repeat weeks if you need to
    Enjoy!

    DO IT DO IT!

So, i'm not a runner, and never have been. The idea of a 12 minute mile in highschool when it was required made me cringe and I never did quite get there. I started this program last week, did my 3 workouts and found I actually did go further. I'm still going to stick with week one until I can do things comfortably and then go to the next level because I get wicked shin splints and really can't go for long if I run and walk, I did find I am now able to walk the full mile on my treadmill and completed my first self directed mile in 23 minutes... my thoughts? Yep it took me 23 minutes for the first mile i've tried to go on the treadmill, but next time i'll hit 20, and then 15, and then 12 and yes, eventually I will get to 10 minute mile and be able to do 3 of them in a row....it just takes time.
Rule on the program, don't go ahead of yourself, but pace yourself and repeat weeks as needed.
  • I started this in May 2011 using an app called Get Running for my iphone. The app follows the programme for c25k and is truly brilliant. I could barely do the first day's run - but here I am now running 5k three times a week!! I was really careful about looking after my legs etc until I adjusted to running and even on the rest days when I felt I wanted to run I didn't - I followed the programme exactly. Got great running shoes properly fitted too!

The best news, apart from getting fit, is I have lost 23lbs I am at the weight I was before I had my children (quite a few years ago!!) and I feel better than ever. The running gives you motivation when the eating is at its most challenging and the healthy eating works brilliantly alongside your improving health and fitness and....I've got a waist - I've never had a waist even at my slimmest!! Definitely do it - it has changed my life for the better.

For me, now being on Week 8, there is nothing to contemplate! :) having never ran before in my life, and giving every excuse i could possibly give to not even walk anywhere. i dropped almost 1.5 stone doing C25K and run my first race, and looking forward to pushing up to 10K which there is a local race near me to run!

I love running now and C25K got me into that groove needed to start you moving! I even get quite upset if im not able to get out on a sheduled run for one reason or another. Its hard work (was for me anyway) but somebodies got to do it ;) Happy Running!
