Pizza question!
I'm making a veggie pizza today and I have orange bell peppers. When you make a pizza with bell peppers do you roast the peppers first and then add to the pizza, or just put them raw and then bake? I am putting raw spinach, tomato, basil and onion on there. And garlic. I saw a recipe that called for roasting the garlic first and blending into a paste but it seems like too much work. Any other ideas are welcome!

i WOULD COOK THEM A LITTLE FIRST AS THEY WILL NOT COOK DOWN ENOUGH IN THE TIME IT TAKES TO COOK THE PIZZA. CRUNCHY PEPPER ON A PIZZA = YUK0

I love crunchy very thin sliced pepper.................but I am afraid the pizza base is a no no for me, full of carbs !0

I'm opposite of kirstiey - peppers are best crunchy. Just slice them and chuck them on.
Bu then, I'd also chuck on some chorizo and nagas to spice it up0 -
I don't usually roast peppers first, just dice them kind of fine, like 1/4" dice. We use artichokes, black olives, mushrooms, onion, tomatoes, and spinach on our veggie pizza and the artichokes are the only things cooked first - I buy them canned for convenience.0

I like the peppers a bit crunchy, so I wouldn't cook them at all before adding them.
The point with baking the garlic is that it makes the flavour more 'rounded'. But it's not that necessary to do0 -
i would sautee all the veggies together (minus the tomato) just enough to soften them, then add to the pizza. thats what i do b/c i cant eat peppers if they crunch even a little0

If you don't want crunchie or dried veggies on your pizza. Saute the veggies for a couple min. in just a tbls of olive oil and 1/2 cup of water. Cover with lid.0

I do something called california bbq pizza
I get small individual pizza crusts, bbq sauce, tomato past, cheese, grilled chicken, a little bacon, broccoli, red onion, mushrooms, olives, ect.
I mix a table spoon of tomato past with the bbq sauce until it is the consistency you want for your base sauce
I then put a thin layer of cheese, meats, veggies and then top with just a drizzle of straight bbq sauce, then top with a light layer of cheese so everything sticks.
We fire up the grill and cook them straight on the tops, sooooo yummy and a family fav!
I have done thin strips of bell pepper before, cut up really thin like matchsticks it works well but any bigger I would roast for a little bit. I buy minced garlic so I don't roast it. Hope this helps!0 -
I like my peppers to have a bit of crunch! Slice thin or chop into small pieces, bake along with everyone else. Sounds delicious!
Do you add cheese to this pizza and if so what kind? (love pizza, cheese and veggies!)0 -
I either slice them thin or chop them up, but I don't cook them before because I like them to have a little bit of crunch to them0

I have mozzarella cheese but it is sliced not grated, and the fat-free tomato sauce from Trader Joe's. I am using TJ's whole wheat pizza dough to make it. I plan to use the recipe function on MFP to calculate the calories for each slice.0

ok firstly slice the peppers into quarters make shure your oven is a hot as possible,roast off the pppers with a litte seasoning and some fry light.when the peppers are nicelt carmelized afetr about 12 mins take them out and cover them in cling film for about 20 mins .the skins will be easier to remove and the peppers will be a lot sweeter becuase the skin can be a little bitter.then slice into strips whatever size you want.i hope this helps. roast off a little garlic with it and it will add a new dimension,or just throw all your veg in there.
make your own tomato sauce from garlic and onions gently fried in fry light spray.add passata cook for 20 mins blitz with a stick blender or in a proccesor add a little blasamic vinegar a teaspoon of brown sugar,to regulate the acidity optional of course.add dried oregano rougly a tablespoon and finish with salt and pepper to taste.keeps in th fridge for a week and can be used for pasta sauce bases and ratatouille,if needed.
i was a proffesional chef for 12 years thats how i would do it.try and make the dough yorself becuase you know then whats in there.you can always freeze the bases when made for later.

I just slice the peppers thin and put it on there. When ya order pizza from the pizza joint their peppers are not roasted but raw.0

Speaking as someone who worked as a pizza cook (in a major east coast city) in college. Never, ever put cooked vegetables on a pizza unless you want a very mushy pie. And I wouldn't roast the garlic and make it into a paste.0

I use a corn tortilla and make myself an individual pizza.. load it up with veggies (including spinach) top with turkey pepperoni and mozz.. heat in 400F oven for about 8 minutes.. averages 300 cal for the whole thing.. yum,.. LOL0
