Calories when sick

i just came down with tonsillitis, again. I get it 4-5 a year but this is the first time I've gotten it since changing my diet. Basically, my throat hurts a lot and I can barely swallow food although I'm starving. Would it hurt if my caloric intake dropped for about 3 day until I feel better or should I just choke down the food even if it hurts?

You could always get one of the nutrition drinks to keep your body fueled properly until you can eat normal again. I would look into getting my tonsils out if you get tonsilitis that often!0

Make higher calorie smoothies or shakes, and eat lots of soup?...eat creamier soups if you need to make up for calories. I also get strep throat and/or tonsillitis about 3 or 4 times a year so I know the hell you're going though....can barely swallow saliva let alone food.0

Try to get some nutrition with ice cold veg/fruit smoothies, hun. The vitamins really help kick out sickness, and the coldness soothes the throat. Get well soon!0

I've been trying to do this for years. They rarely do it anymore, as it is not a "necessary surgery". ...it's ridiculous, haha.0

I'd drink a shake or something..but if you really can't eat, then don't. Just stay hydrated.0

I typically have a similar problem 3-5 times during the winter months, so I know how it feels and how annoying it can be.
If you are hungry you should probably eat something - in your situation I'd probably go for some soup......something with a good caloric density like a curry soup based off of a good coconut milk (not the low fat version) with some rice or pasta in it.
Going for a few days without meeting your allotted calories won't do you any harm - just like going over your allotted calories for a few days won't destroy anything. It's what you do in the long run that may result in undesirable side effects, and 3 days in that picture is nothing. Just remember to stay hydrated at all time drink lots of fluids (and that's also where the soup comes in).0
