I quit cigarettes just over 30 years ago and gained about 5 or 10 pounds. I'm a big guy so that was almost nothing, relatively. Since then lifestyle and eating habits have gained, and lost, and regained, far greater amounts of weight. Seriously, kick the cigarettes, now.

I always say quiting was easy, I did it hundreds of times. Staying quit is hard!
But, like anything, you get better with practice. Develop coping strategies that work for you.

And I'm only sort of joking when I tell people the first ten years were the hardest. It gets easier over time. I was tempted less and less as time went on but for me it did last years before the occasional cravings were gone. One thing that helped when I was tempted: I reminded myself how hard it was to get as far as I'd come and I didn't want to have to start quiting all over again. You can't have just one!

Quit the cigarettes. I quit and did not gain weight. Trade out the cigarettes for something to drink like tea or coffee (it keeps your mouth and hands busy). It helps keep you from turning to food to replace the cigarettes.

Nope. Because my exercise and eating habits DIDN'T change. What many do when they quit is pick up a different habit and that's usually since they had something in their mouth (cigarette) they substitute it with something food stuff. Telly Savalas sucked on lollipops. So if a lollipop was 10 calories and he ate 20 a day, that's an extra 200 calories. If you keep eating 200 calories a day over your maintenance weight, you'll slowly gain weight.
