I’ve had enough

Hello, I’m 34, my height is 5’7 and currently weigh 186lbs. I’ve struggled to manage my weight the last 5 years and I’m at my worst right now. I can’t even tie my shoes or cut my toe nails without holding my breath for a few seconds. I don’t like how I look in front of the mirror and I always feel insecure just by looking at myself in the mirror. This might be too much for an introduction but I really don’t know what else to say. I don’t like how I look and feel right now and I want to start doing something about it.

Good for you, getting started: Welcome to the Community.
I was about your size when I started weight loss a bit over 8 years ago (5'5", 183), but much older (59). MFP was perfect for me, helping me figure out how to remodel my eating habits in ways I could stick with long term. (I've been at a healthy weight for 7+ years already.)
Don't be afraid to take it slowly. I hear what you're saying about not feeling good right now, and it's normal for all of us to want to lose weight fast. Thing is, even when losing fast, losing a meaningful total amount of weight is going to take many weeks to many months, and sometimes even a small number of years if really lots to lose. It's for sure not a quick project with a near-term end date, after which things "go back to normal"!
IMO, that puts a premium on finding a new routine that's reasonably easy and practical to stick with for quite a long time. Then there's wanting to stay at that healthy weight, which is a forever endeavor. Gradually finding new, sustainable eating and activity habits can be super helpful in all of that, IME.
I'm a witness that it's possible to make progress with MFP. For me, reaching a healthy weight (and staying there . . . so far) was a big improvement in my quality of life. I'd also point out that not all the benefits arrive after reaching goal weight: Good things happen all along the route, typically starting after the first relatively small chunk of pounds drop off. I found this very long thread really motivating, when I was losing, in that way:

(NSV = Non Scale Victory . . . those things like tying shoes easily, and much much more.)
Wishing you much success here: The effort is worth it. All the best!0
