Okay mfpals...
I have been working out with you guys for three months now and am now ready to invest in a HR monitor. Can you guys please chime in and give me any clues to what I should and SHOULD not be looking for as I go and purchase one. I would like to find one reasonably priced this week. Thank you guys for all your support! )

I love my Polar FT4. When I did my research, the Polar brand got the best reviews. I got mine at ****s for about $80, but I would also look at best buy and online. I know others have found it online for much less than that. It is not overly complicated, but it gives me my average HR and calories burned. If you want to have a GPS function to track where you run, I would suggest a Garmin, but expect to pay double what you can get the FT4 for.
Good luck! having a HRM has really helped me keep track of my exercise calories.:drinker:0 -
I started out with a Timex and couldn't get it to work for me.
Went to the Polar FT4 and love it. This was also the one that was highly recommended on the boards from the people I asked.
Good luck with it!0 -
Literally got my Polar FT7 delivered today. Took it out for a walk at lunch and seems to work fine. The volume on the alerts a little low and I'm not sure if this is adjustable. That's all I have since I haven't had it for long.0

There should be a setting for the volume on your alerts. I have a Polar FT4 and I have volume settings.0 -
I have a question concerning this too. I have a mid-level Garmin HRM band/watch setup but it doesn't work while I'm running with my iPhone tracker RunKeeper. There must be some kind of interference with the signals. I want to be able to track my heart rate and therefore more accurate calories burned through my RunKeeper app. Which device works best for this application?0
