    Success of the week: I got out my whitewater canoe and joined a group on some mild class 2 and 3 water. It was a hoot. Got in a hike to see the wildflowers. I might have to skip the upcoming hiike and basically skip a week. Committments ya know.

    Struggle of the week: Kneeling for four hours in a canoe is brutal on my knees, and my paddle is too long.

    Successes: Doing well at staying at or below weight goal. Good weather and getting outside working in the yard and going for walks help.
    Struggle: Because my weight has been good, I found I didn't make some good food choices. Reminder to myself: It isn't just weight but good health also.

    • Finding enjoyable ways to move. If you don’t enjoy it, then it’s difficult to motivate yourself
    • I found some great seated Pilates videos from Rachel, The girl with the Pilates Mat., and some cardio with body weight videos that I like. YouTube is such a useful resource.

    Struggles:
    • Remembering to adjust the intensity of my exercise regimen to take account of medical advice
    • Managing the possible weight increase with increased toning strength work

    Successes:
    didn’t gain more (I think because I’ve been off the statin)

    Reduced my bp !! &blood glucose !! readings after I stopped eating high sugar/starch meals out in restaurants.

    Eating only at home the past week, balanced meals, less than 50% of the carbs I was eating earlier in weight loss.

    Struggles: very tired moving out belongings out of the way of work being done in our home; death of my uncle (93, healthy until the day before), and learning my brilliant dad has cognitive impairment. I am sad, but I promised myself that I would not regain the weight. AND I would place my #HealthFIRST. My dad always encouraged this; it helps.

    Dr: Can you tell me who the President is?
    Dad: We’ll, I figure it’s the guy who was elected in the last election.

    2. If I need to cut carbs to prevent diabetes
    and moderate protein for kidney transplant
    And keep Sat fat low for my heart

    I guess it’s avocados, olive oil & tons of lettuce, celery, etc.

    So be it. I will preserve my health.

    Struggle of the week: it was my son’s birthday on Wednesday and also the end of the school’s year. There were a lot of celebrations and parties and I ate way too much and not always healthy.
    Succes of the week: I manage to balance the exces of food with sport (but it is not something I want to do long term).

    This Friday I go on holiday. I want it to be restful. I am going back to intermittent fasting and my maintenance calories.

    Success of the week: I spend six days camping at an annual fair. We run a temporary restaurant that makes sushi rolls. I ate a lot, but I also walked a WHOLE lot, so the scale is down from the day I left.


    Struggle of the week: Dust and lack of sleep, but it's all good.

    Successes/Struggles:

    Now 7 weeks post -op and I have ramped up the exercise – walking twice a day, not using the crutches, and walking much faster. Started some low impact cardio work, just 5 to 10 minutes at a time but several times a day. I’m driving again so got my independence back. Life is good.

    Struggle: I didn't do as well with my exercises and time in the yard this week because of busyness. The yard work isn't just healthy for body but it also does wonders mentally.

    Successes/struggles of the week: The past few weeks my weight has gone quite a bit off the rails. I haven't gotten used to the decreased activity from no longer doing my second job on the weekends. That combined with several days in a row eating high-calorie meals out all day plus being away, including sitting in a car for 8+ hours on two days and not being able to work out for a few days straight, really bumped my weight up over the top of my range. I'm still holding on to quite a bit of water weight now, and will hopefully get back down into range again soon.

    Success of the week: Last day putting away our 3-day restaurant. Rest day. Hiking day back to the Peak. Drove all day to buy a new-to-me canoe. It's 18 years old but doesn't show it. Lovely color, and paddles really nicely too. Two paddling days. One more rest day before getting back after it to help with invasive species survey and treat, a hike, a long visit to the dentist, some more paddling, and preparing for a weekend camping/paddling trip. Oh. Yeah. Almost forgot; maintenance is coming back into focus again. Slowly of course because that's best, and it's good to see the results.


    Struggle of the week: Trying to fit everything in. I really don't know where I ever found 40 plus hours a week to go to work. Not looking forward to three hours with the dentist tools rearranging the inside of my mouth.

    Struggles:
    Another odd little blip – this time upwards – happened this week. I had family staying and ate more than usual (including a Chinese take-away) and was more active (15,000 steps one day) and my weight jumped from 49.3 to 50.4 over three days. It’s not likely that I have eaten an excess of 7,000+ calories, so it is probably fluid retention.

    Successes:
    My weight is dropping again now, on my own for a week or so. I’m still less than 2 months post-op after hip replacement so still in the healing/recovery stage

    Struggle: My weight was a little below goal for a few weeks and I started to stray a little. I think it is where the maintenance happens. I gained a lb and warning bells go off. It's not panic, just a warning - a good thing,

    Successes: I am now right at goal weight. I did have a DQ mini-blizzard last week (an every 5 year thing) but logged it and stayed within by calories for that day.

    Successes/struggles of the week: Still struggling with getting my weight back down into range again. My weight finally dropped a bit from the water weight retention after eating well for several days, but then it of course went back up again after a pizza dinner and another meal out two days in a row and stayed high again since. It finally dropped again a bit yesterday, but I'll see if that sticks or not.

    Struggle of the week: My back is acting up, and the scale ticked back up temporarily. It's already going back down, but it did affect my weekly average weight. Oh well.

    Successes:
    Nearly 18,000 steps yesterday! Dancing in the park in the afternoon. I’ve really got my mojo back since the op.

    Struggles: nothing weight related, but family visiting again this week, so relaxing my eating patterns somewhat.
    Mental struggles – my DIL is visiting from the States, she went to live there 18 months ago and I haven’t seen my grandchildren since then. This week we will mark my son’s birthday – he would be 44 on Tuesday but died before his 42nd birthday. My DiL is American so I can’t really blame her for wanting to go “home” but it was very painful. I’m learning to accept the situation.

    Successes/struggles of the week: Average weight this week was down from last week a bit, which is good. I dropped back down into the 113 range one day, but that was followed by a couple of high-sodium days which bumped me up again, though not as much as where I was previously. Trying to eat healthier and do fewer meals out to continue the downward trend.
