Why the BLANK am I gaining?

Today was not exactly the most nutritional when it comes to eating. It was a day full of "football snacks", which is something we often do around here.
Other than today, I THINK I have been behaving myself quite well for several days.
Why, then, oh WHY does the scale show a weight gain? I'm not talking about a small one - but almost five pounds.
It isn't TOM. (That hasn't happened since 1992.)

If by football snacks you mean foods high in sodium, then it would be expected for you to have a weight gain due to water retention. These are usually 2-5 lbs and can happen overnight. If you are doing well and this is not a "legitimate" weight gain, then calm yourself, put the scale away for a week, and get back to your healthy lifestyle0

I dont BLANKIN' know.
It could be a variety of factors: water weight, muscle gain, or overestimating/underestimating calories. However, the most likely reason is the high sodium content in "typical football food."
Don't worry, though. Just get back on track!0 -
Too much sodium in your food maybe? Not drinking enough water? Not eating enough food to sustain your activity level? Gaining muscle? Could be many things but without seeing your food journal not sure if it is food related. Make sure you are logging everything that goes into your mouth. Little bites here and there add up quickly and make sure you log your drinks if they have calories. Also make sure you weigh yourself first thing in the morning, no food or drink yet, and naked to get an accurate weight. Weighing in at the end of the day after you have eaten will show a larger number than first thing in the morning. Good luck!0

I have weeks like that and wonder what the heck is going on!! I think football snacks and beverages may be "doing me in". :grumble:0

Do football snacks to you mean nachos and beer? Wings and pretzels? Chips and dip and Mountain Dew?
I think the PP are on to something ... maybe a high sodium day.0 -
You said you "THINK" you have been good. If you aren't honesty and completely logging your food/exercise every day, it would be really hard to know if you are on the right track or not. If I'm having a problem (ie weight gain or plateau), I really scrutinize my food diary and see where I am going wrong. Hope that helps and good luck!0

So, it appears, my MFP pals, that YOU are geniuses and "I" am an idiot!
For the past couple of weeks, I have been SO focused on the calories, that I hadn't paid close attention to the sodium.
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH BOY!!!
Now THAT is an adjustment I need to make very quickly!
FTR - football snacks are diet soda and pre-packed foods, such as pizza rolls, poppers and the like.
Thanks for the kind supportive words.
This is why I love you all0
