My church tradition calls for regular fasting. In the past I fasted excessively, even when not required, and wound up with a binging and purging disorder. So now I am very careful about over restricting. Since I'm in my 60s I am no longer required to fast, but I wanted to observe at least the 3 days over Easter by omitting all animal foods, sugar and wine.
I didn't succeed entirely - a couple of small slip ups, but, thanks to logging all my food in MFP, I did keep it restrained. Even better, I didn't binge at the potluck feast following Midnight Mass. I am very happy. I wish I had found this a long time ago to get me through the whole of Lent, but practice makes perfect and I will do better next year.8 -
Now up to 35 days successive tracking and daily walking - that's a whole 5 weeks. Proud to report I am now down to 82 kg. My next mini goal is to below 80 kg by my 65th birthday in July.14

7 weeks tracking. Down to 81 kg and I've lost 2 inches off my waist and 1 inch off my hips. This is like budgeting and tracking your money. That $20 left over goes into the savings account every payday and before you know it you have several hundred saved up. - I used to be in debt too and didn't want to look at my bills and credit card total, told myself budgeting wouldn't work because I needed all my money tp live on and anyway budgets aren't fun .... you have to cut out everything you enjoy and scrimp and save every penny ... Not so! You can allocate money for fun. And in planning my eating for the day I can allow for treats. If I go a little over one day it's no biggie as long as I keep making progress.15

55 days in a row logging my foods and walking at least 60 mins a day ....
I've lost 5 per cent of my body weight! Medical opinion is if you are overweight and lose this much, there will be discernible health effects.
And my BMI is 26.2, down from 27.8.8 -

Regained half a kilo this week and wasn't sure why, since my net calories are still below my allowed limit of 1240.
.... but then The Mighty Bathroom Event occurred and I'm back down to 80.5.
I generally do 300-400 calories worth of exercise per day, but in future I'm only going to allow myself to eat half of those extra allowed in addition to the 1240.5 -
Down to 80 kg for the first time in 3 years!
Some years ago I read a story about a priest who was preparing to preach on the Seven Deadly Sins. He hesitated over Gluttony, thinking it would stigmatise the overweight people - but then he realised he was obese. He asked forgiveness from his flock and lead them on a diet, which resulted in them losing hundreds of pounds.
This had an impact on me, because I was planning to go to India at the time and I felt ashamed to look like the Venus of Willendorf among many people who were poor and hungry. I realised how privileged I was to have excess food.
So I lost the weight - but then I got used again to living in a Land of Plenty and regained it. I could blame it on Covid, but I was the one eating extra and not exercising. It was my laziness and self indulgence.
I'm not trying to shame or judge anyone else. There are many reasons for obesity and some are beyond people's control. I'm trying to be honest with myself about my situation and take responsibility for it.9 -
79.8 kg - yay! below 80! Also I noticed a pair of jeans I have had previously to squeeeeze into, now slip on more easily.3

My waist is down to 34 inches, which takes me out of the Greatly Increased Risk zone down to Increased Risk. I would like to get back to 30 inches. Also my hips are down to 43 ins and I'd like to get them down to 40.1

Had my wake up call last week at my endocrinologist's. I'm just a blood sugar level away from Type 2 Diabetes.
Successfully made it through the first week of walking and tracking what I eat. My goal is to walk 10,000 steps 6x/ wk and lose 46 lbs. My middle son is my coach โค๏ธ I'm refusing to buy new batteries for my scale until week 3, as I know I'll become hyper focused over the number.4 -
Yesterday I turned 65 and today is my Day 100 of tracking on MFP. I am down to 76.4 kg, a total of 9.1 (20 lbs) lost.11

I'm starting my second year of weight loss and learning to eat better. I've had some setbacks due to stress and life changes that I didn't have last year. I'm coming to the realization that I have to accept the good with the bad and just keep going.5

I took me nearly 20 years of battling weight ups and downs till this year when I buckled down to a low carb no sugar and exercise way of life, I suddenly lost 40 lbs in 6 months. I'm healthy. I got my blood pressure, my blood sugar, and my cholesterol down and my fitness has greatly improved. Just keep it up.. keep going it's going to happen for you.4 -

I never had a weight problem when I was young, but since living on my own my weight has gone up and down, due to limited mobility issues meaning virtually the only exercise I can do is walking, bouts of depression and medication for up affecting my appetite.... I never had an ED, but childhood food insecurity issues mean I struggle with overeating when faced with treats ... eat it all now! before it's all gone!
Fortunately I worked with a therapist who eventually said (about eating and other issues) "Either we can continue to explore your emotions around your childhood, or we can work on behavior modifications." I chose the latter and it seems to be working out. Whatever others in my life may have done, I have to take responsibility for my current actions, or nothing will change.5 -

aaand, nearly 6 months later, I'm down to 72 kg. 13.5 kg (29.7 lb) gone! Persistency pays. And today, for the first time, someone asked me if I'd lost weight..... why yes I have, thank very much for noticing. (I am tall and it takes a while for change to show)
So today I was taking a walk across the campus and there had obviously been a whale of a party. Among the empties I spotted .....a full can of beer! I haven't had a beer in 3 years so I snaffled it. I will celebrate on a day when I've done lots of exercise and I'm below my calorie limit. Hopefully when I hit 70 kg.2 -
.....aaaand, 197 days later, I've hit my goal! 70 kg! (154 lbs) BMI 22.9. Waist 31.5 ins, Hips 40.5 ins. Ratios put me in the low risk category for abdominal fat. I'm thinking of dropping about 3 more kilos (I'd like to get my waist back to 30 and hips below 40) But it can wait till the New Year. I want to focus on maintaining my current weight over the Holiday Season, which will be upon us sooner than expected....6
