Introducing myself

Hello! I'm a 70 year old gay male starting a weight loss journey. My starting weight was 313 pounds. A week and a half in, my weight is 306. I live in Minnesota and say howdy to all of you!

Hello, and congratulations on your weight loss so far!

If you're interested, there's a moderately active LGBT+ group here:

    https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/22-lgbt

But I hope you'll also be a happy participant/contributor in the general MFP Community, too.

I started here at 59, but there are other folks here my current age (67) and well beyond, at varying stages of weight management, from starting loss to maintaining a loss (where I am now). MFP can be a help at any age, for sure.

One thing to be aware of - not to be discouraging but to avoid discouragement happening - is that it's pretty common to see a big weight drop at the start, then have a bit of a seeming stall (or even small regain) in the first few weeks. That's about water retention rebalancing after we make big changes in our routine, mostly.

After that, the typical thing is to see small day to day ups and downs in weight, with an overall trend downward (as visualized over multiple weeks). In case you're not familiar with that kind of pattern, it can be alarming at first, but it's perfectly normal if it happens.

Wishing you much success - IME it's worth the effort!

Hi! I am Jo Ann. I used MyFitnessPal before and lost weight, which I maintained for a few years. Now I need to get back on track as I has put some weight back on. This app really motivated me so I am using it again in my ongoing quest to get and stay healthy.
