Well...it's calories that matter for weight loss.

Are you doing some specific plan like keto or something?

When I was in weight-loss mode I naturally cut back on carbs and increased fats, I usually ate at around 40%C 40%F 20%P, but that was just by eating the foods I liked in the portions that kept me in calories and still got me my basic nutrition.

Just study your FOOD diary, that's the way I learned the macros in foods. If you pre-log it before you eat it, you can tweak portions to make them fit.

When you're starting, it's easy to have a calorie deficit just from substitutions and cutting back on sweets. When you start logging, you soon see the difference between meals and snacks which satiate you, and huge calorie ones which don't.

The only macro I've ever tracked is protein. Get enough of that, watch total calories, the rest tends to work itself out.

Hi @jmalonevowles Welcome to MFP, Jules!

Starting out tracking macros, while learning to weigh, log, and do everything ya need to do conscientiously can be staggeringly overwhelming.

I’d break it into chunks. Start by tracking your calories.

As I did that, I found my macros falling into place anyway, simply via the better choices I was making, and the awareness I was building of what went in my mouth.

Doing that was so much better than the junk food I’d been snarfing for years that it was immediately “better than it was before” - my mantra throughout weight loss.

There’s always time to work on macros later, if you still feel they’re out of kilter.

It may also help to occasionally check the weekly nutrition view, rather than the daily. I find that my weekly average is pretty well in line with what I need, versus stressing over it on a daily basis.

My Doughnut Sunday donut (a salad-plate sized apple fritter) brings my fat macro into better balance almost by itself, lol. Doughnut as nutrition champ? Yeah, baby!!!!

My doctor told me to get at least 60 g of protein a day other than that I don't really pay attention to the macros.
