I can’t walk and have decided to start on 1000 cal, but I am struggling
Every time somebody asked me to go out, I try and order a salad or something but I don’t lose weight

Well - walking is not a requirement for losing weight. There are lots of YouTube videos for seated workouts.

Working out s also not a requirement for losing weight. It's about eating less. Doesn't have to be salads. Log your food, make adjustments to portion sizes until you find a level of food that allows weight loss.

First of all, 1000 cals per day is too low. How many calories does MFP ask you to eat? Secondly, I recommend declining eating out until you get the hang of things. Practice weighing and measuring at home. Salad dressing, cheese, nuts — lots of things that can make a restaurant salad high calorie. Is your diary open for the public to view?

It’s often said ‘round here that “weight loss is made in the kitchen”.

Lots of folks here have lost weight with little exercise (although I recommend some form of exercise because the benefits are plentiful).

But as long as you’re eating in a deficit (burning more through being alive than taking in for calories) then you can lose weight.

Unless medically recommended, 1,000 is too low. No wonder you’re struggling.

I put off going out socially when I started. First of all I was too embarrassed for anyone to find out I was trying to lose weight and dreaded explain myself, or having to ruefully laugh off a potential failure. Second of all, I wanted to get a grip on portion sizes, weighing, logging, eating better before I attempted it “in the wild”

Once I did start eating out, I made it a point to study the online menu beforehand so I’d already know what I was going to order.

I also made substitutions. I don’t eat salad dressings. My husband brings his own zero cal salad dressing to his weekly Kiwanis meetings.

I’d ask for a ceasar salad with no dressing and a portions or two of grilled chicken on top.I studied our favorite fast food place’s menu (sincerest props to CookOut for publishing nutritional info) and to my surprise, learned that a double order (they give you two sides) of their breaded onion rings had fewer calories than a single order of their fries or (😢)
Hush puppies I’ve ordered grilled fish when out, something I seldom attempt at home.

Sushi? Have learned to love sushi, and some kinds are a great low cal, yet luxurious meal.

Favorite pizza place- now we both get a salad to start, and that helps us hang tight from devouring the whole pizza. We always take half home for leftovers.

By simply paying attention, I can enjoy a meal out once in a while for similar calories to what I could make a meal at home for.

I have to eat out a lot for work. I always look at the menu before going. There is always something that I can eat but it is never ideal. For the moment, I don't voluntarily eat out.

I had a friend who lost a hundred pounds on weight watchers and she said whenever she ate out she would get the takeout box at the beginning of the meal and put away half her food before she even started eating.

Talk to your primary care provider about what would be a good starting point. It may be helpful to get a nutritionist and physical therapist on board to help make sustainable changes. Extreme calorie reduction is usually a set up for failure.

1000 calories is way to low. Your body is fighting the weight loss because it’s going into starvation mode. It is holding on to everything and in return you don’t lose weight. There are exercises you can do sitting down that will help. Please increase your calorie count to what is recommended for healthy weight loss.

There’s no starvation mode. But eating too little sets people up for failure. If they don’t binge and then give up early there are health implications from eating too little. TO, don’t be that person. Chose a sensible weightloss goal (we can help you if you tell us your stats) and wat that amount. Eat back exercise calories the way mfp is designed to.
