I ALWAYS order:

Hamachi, Unagi, Saba and California roll with tobiko.

I can basically eat any sushi (except sea urchin) but those are my go to's!!!

I usually have fish or avocado nigiri, avocado maki, if available salmon sashimi and maybe a roll without mayo or fresh cheese

I will usually order several maki rolls, because they are filling. If I am splurging then tuna sashimi, because it’s delicious. If I am doing sushi at home will do California hand rolls, because its easy.

Various veggie maki. If the restaurant has vegetarian specialty maki, I'll usually try that. Beyond that it's just mood about what sounds good. It's not technically sushi, but I do like a nice order of salted edamame as a starter.

Salmon or tuna nigiri. But I really enjoy poke, also.

Love salmon nigiri, unagi nigiri, ikura gunkan-maki.

sushi 🍣 🍱 I could eat it every single day.

Sashimi - otoro and copper river salmon 😋

I live down the block from a sushi restaurant and we just order omakase.. we eat whatever Chef makes.

Only type that I’ve had that I wouldn’t order again .. wagyu beef sushi. It wasn’t my thing. I’ll stick to the fish. 😉

Same. I wish I could afford to eat it everyday. I could if I actually lived in Japan making the American dollar.

We ate at a Izakaya place last night. Our maki's were salmon and avocado and spicy tuna.

    Tips for eating sushi cheaply.
Roll your own California hand rolls are easy to do at home. Pictured here with both crab sticks and a seared tuna steak. I learned this from a Japanese girlfriend as the way to do family style sushi at home.

Another thing to check is the closing policy for is sushi lunchbox takeaway places. We have two chains in London that mostly cater to office workers at lunchtime. A half hour before closing in the evening, all the sushi is half price. It's not the best sushi, but a convenient way to pick up a cheap sushi feast on the way home from work. Pictured here is £10 worth of sushi boxes.

Making sushi myself is not an option as I can't get sushi grade fish, and it would be barely cheaper using the poor quality frozen salmon or tuna I could get there. :(

Yeah, it's not as cheap as you think. Salmon here for a fillet can cost up to $25. That's about 12 pieces.

Beef or elephant biltong wrapped in a lettuce leave with a dash of fresh horseradish. Delicious!
