I recently made a post about being scared to even come close to my MFP suggested calorie intake, its set to 1410 and u generally only eat about 900-1200.

The reason I'm mentioning this is because I've been stuck at a plateau for about three weeks now, and I'm wondering if its because I'm eating less. I figure less food = more weight loss, but I have been reading alot if material suggesting other wise and I'm very confused about it.

Basically I'm asking is this normal and will i eventually start loosing weight again or am I eating too little

Btw I'm 229-23o
Walk alot and on feet for up to six hours, torso and arms are in constant motion (cashier)

You're eating too little for your level of activity so your body is starting to behave like it's starving. Try and knock it up to the 1500 mark for a few days, with healthy food! If you're really having trouble eating that much, it would be wise to see a doctor.

I hope I'm not giving the wrong impression (no doctors necessary lol)
I'm just confused about this whole deficit and calorie in calorie out thing
I wanted to get some peoples opinions/advice/personal input on this

    Hi there :)
When you eat too little always your body maintains a slow metabolism... So you have to pick at least a day in the week to eat a bit more than your usual calorie-intake to step up your metabolism..
Also, when you eat too little for a long time, your body will start acting like it's starving and once you eat more it will store up the food quickly... so try to not eat too little for a very long time.

Keep Going! You're doing just fine :)

  • When I was around 229-230 I was consuming over 1500 calories a day and was losing consistently (sp?). So I will say to up your calories to at least 1500. AND count your walking as exercise too. So that is my opinion/advice.

Hmmm, I don't know, I tend to do better the less i eat! The less i have to worry about what to eat and the pounds fall off quickly most of the time. The first few days i ate about 900 or less calories, i lost 7 pounds in those 3 days, then the next couple of days i ate around 1400 or better and i gained some of the weight back, so whats up with that?! I don't know how long you have been eating your calories that low but you might try zig zagging your calories for a few days a see if that helps. One day eat like 1000 c and the next day eat 1200-1400 c and see if that will change the scale. I know how frustrating it can be to not see the scale move especially when you feel as if you are doing so well. Give it time eventually it will start going down, I plateaued for a good 3-4 weeks at one point before i started dropping again, i believe its a time when your body is adjusting to the weight you have lost so far and it needs to settle for a bit. Even when you are not actively losing weight during those times, your body is still changing, ever seem to notice that when you have lost quite a bit of weight and the scale won't budge so you start eating and blowing your diet, that is when people start really noticing and telling you how good your looking? Weird i know but that is how it usually works! Hang in there, do not give up, it takes times and patience! Good luck!

I was also confused too but if you calorie intake is around 1410 then you should consume 1410 calories per day, dont worry if you have maybe 60 calories or less remaining. The reason why I'm saying this its cause 1410 is your required intake whether you exercise or not you should still lose weight by consuming 1410 calories.
If you work out and burn around 300 calories then you should try to gain back at least 80% of the calories lost. When you're eating under your required calorie intake then it's forcing your body to go into starvation mode.

Yes losing the pounds are so nice but it will catch up to your body. I used to do the same thing but it caught on to me and i eventually passed out one day so please dont make it a habit. Now for the plateau, you should try doing different exercises rather than your usual ones to trick your body. Let's say today you run and next time you get on the elliptical , so on & so forth.

    Hope i helped
  • Maybe add some strenght/resistance training into your exercise as well as the walking?
