Enough fat to cushion joints, provide sufficient hormone levels for organ operation, and not so much that it interferes with your ability to live your life. For each person, that'll be a highly personal decision.6

That's going to depend on the individual, what their preference is, and where they hold their fat. Not to mention male vs. female.3

There is NO CONSENSUS. However there are %'s that you shouldn't exceed to reduce health risks.
Overall, I personally believe that if anyone is over 27% BF, then need to work on reducing it.

12-20%ish for men.
Anything leaner isn’t really “healthier” and that’s not too lean to survive a catastrophic illness or be fatigued all the dang time from exercise/diet.

I think it also depends on where the fat is held. Fat around the middle appears to have more health risks than fat around the bum. You can be overweight but with a healthy amount of fat, or “normal” weight and with too much fat.1

10 to 15 for men and 16 to 20 for women0
