Fruit and Tree Nut Allergy

As some of you already know from my other posts, I have, what I think to be, an apple allergy, as well as some other fruits including strawberries and possibly blueberries. I can eat applesauce, and juice, just not apples. Even without the peel.
I also cannot eat almonds, walnuts and pistachios. When I eat any of these, my tongue, throat, and insides of my ears get REALLY itchy, which leads me to believe I also have a tree nut allergy. I'm going to be talking to my doctor about all of this when I go for my yearly physical next month.
I've tried researching online, but found no good information on any of this. Are fruit and nut allergies related? And are these common symptoms?

My brother in law has the same allergies. He can eat fruit as long as they are cooked or canned (which I think some might be cooked or heated).
He is also allergic to tree nuts but as he has gotten older he has been able to re-introduce them into his diet.
I would definitely be tested for your nut allergy.

I have the same thing! It gets worse as you get older. (I am only 27 but it started when I was younger and has gotten MUCH worse) You can google Oral Alergy or Briar Pollen Alergy. I am SO severly allergic that I just started seeing an alergist. He sais because all those things come from the Birch Tree Family, that explains why my spring - summer allergies are out of controll.
I ended up in the ER after one bite into a carmel apple about 7 years ago.... I CAN eat any type of berries, bannanas, and grapes. I can tell if Lettuce isn't washed properly at a resturant... as my mouth slightly starts to itch... I can't even TOUCH a raw potatoe... they are bad for me. I look like WIll Smith in Hitch when he has an allerggy attack just from touching potatoe. No peaches, melons, kiwi, pears, apples, or anything else.
You can eat applesauce and probbaly apple pie and things of that nature because the pollen you are allergic too can not be washed off, but can be cooked off. Don't watse your money on the special fruit cleaners (Fit, i thin it's called) The pollen gets into the food, it can not be washed off.
However, I can buy any of those fruits frozen and make shakes with no problem! The freezing process it goes through gets rid of it as cooking does. I take one cup of any frozen fruit, one banna, and one cup of light oj and I am good to go! I can get all my fruit servings in one shot.
There is no current medication to help.. but there is one in trial still.
It is SO hard to eat healthy when you can't have so many fruits and vegtables.... carrots and pepers weren't an issue for me untill the last year. BUT I can have any of them cooked.

MrsFish05, this was very informative. Thank you. I told Kasey in her other post that both of my daughter are allergic to tree nuts and apples. The older one was tested when she was 3yr. and she was allergic to birch pollen. So knowing that it is a large family makes sense. All this time we thought only the pollen of the birch tree. I did not realize it was a family of trees. I wish the dr would have given out more info on that.
This daughter also has the potato allergy like you. That came on later.
I think everyone is different. With some their allergies get better with age, some worse. I know for me I was never bothered by allergies but in the last 5 years I have started to have the spring/summer outdoor allergies. I use to take alot of sudafed to keep comfortable. Last March I started to use a neti pot. I went through all of allergy season and only used sudafed maybe 3 times. The netipot has been wonderful for my sinuses. No more pressure, headaches...
I am going to look into the sites searches that you recommended. Thank you for them.
To Kasey, I hope you will find more information to help you. And be careful. Both of my girls have had things in restaurants and were told no nuts only to find out later that yes there were nuts. Sometimes in a crust and someone forgot they were in there. Thought it was a grahm cracker crust.0
