Starting over

Hello, Elvis Oost here. I am starting over again. This time I have/am going vegetarian and juicing too. Here’s my plan.
I’ll start my day off with a green juice, which I juice happen havto nearly three pouches of Steve Harvey’s L’Evate You Vitality Daily Greens. Once that supply is gone I’ll try to start making my own green juice,
for lunch I will have some real food like a big salad or some vegetables os some sort.
That will be followed by my favorite carrot/orange/ginger juice at night.
I will allow three snacks daily of a piece of fruit or some nuts.
I have 67lbs to lose and hopefully some better health to gain. That’s it. Please feel free to encourage me or tell me how crazy I I am :-)

Sounds extreme and unnecessary if you can get a food scale and just start measuring the foods you plan to eat the rest of your life! But maybe the juice will be super tasty and offer some good nutrients.2

Good for you for sitting down and thinking about this but, do you really want to hitch your butt-reduction-wagon to a TV personality who hawks weight loss on the side, of all people?
That sounds like an awful lot of trouble, too. I found that too many liquids left me screaming for solid foods. I backed off pretty quickly.
It’s not necessary to have additives or sacks of salad (although I occasionally eat a sack of salad because….I enjoy salad!)
I can make a mean (and deliciously creamy) protein smoothie with half a core power/1/2 cup each low fat cottage cheese and skim milk, topped with as much ice as I want. Takes less than a minute to weigh and blend in my nutribullet.
I’ve got sushi on the menu for lunch today. Low cal and lots of nice nutrients.
I didn’t suffer throughout weight loss and I’m not gonna suffer in maintenance.
Slamming hard at the very beginning wears most folks out within a week or two and then they’re gone. Put some of your clearly excellent thinking skills into a rethink!
Btw, googling his plan, this sounds suspiciously like the same stuff that was hawked on Rush, Hannity, and a hundred other places. The only good thing that ever came out of those ads was Din-o-Vite lol.
Gonna challenge you, since you’re “back”. Presumably you’ve done this before. Is this a rehash of the same old thing but with a new miracle product? What can you do to change “back again” to “still here” by this time next year?
Much success to you, Elvis! (How many times in our life do we get to utter that? 😂)2 -
I suspect this dietary strategy will self correct simply because the body is smarter than we give it credit for. Most people would probably binge pretty quickly and that would be that corrective strategy I mentioned. There's virtually no protein or fat. Maybe try a less calorie and food restricted diet with a reasonable balance of macronutrients in a reasonable deficit, it's old, but works pretty well.0

Since I went from thin to fat to obese and back to thin again, all while vegetarian (over the course of 49 years), I'm going to say vegetarianism is a complete tangent to weight management. Vegetarianism makes excellent nutrition slightly more difficult, too, though that's not insurmountable. IMO, it isn't superior for health, either: Fine, but not superior.
I only lost 50-some pounds, though, not 67; and I'm only 7+ years at a healthy weight since, so I could be riding for another fall, never know.
Your plan sounds ultra-low on protein, as you describe it. That's not a good idea, assuming there wasn't something important left out of your description. You'll need to supplement B-12, and probably some other micronutrients.
If you truly mean juicing, not smoothies, you'll be discarding the fiber, which is one of the valuable things in fruits/veggies. (I have no idea what's in Steve Harvey's Daily Greens.)
Juicing, and living on that alone, would make me miserable, but that's subjective. Even juice plus salad, much as I like a good salad, wouldn't be satisfying. If you find it congenial, more power to you. Personalization is key to successful weight management, IMO.
I guess I'm coming down on the side of skeptical. Let us know how it's going after the first few weeks, OK? I'm willing to learn.2 -
What is your reason for the juice. As far a weight loss or nutrition, it doesn't make sense to me. Juice gives you all of the sugar, some of the vitamins, and none of the fiber of the whole food. Fiber is good for filling you up without calories, not to mention good for digestion, and can help lower cholesterol. you might be better off with the whole foods rather than juice.1

I admire you enthusiasm. However, I echo all the above comments and concerns. This sounds like a recipe for long term failure. Yes, it will likely work short term, but unless you can see yourself eating like this permanently, you will just put the weight back on.0

Sounds like a diet that's pretty low on protein.0
