• Remembering to adjust the intensity of my exercise regimen to take account of medical advice
• Managing the possible weight increase with increased toning strength work

Success of the week: Skipped my weekly hike to take two friends paddling; we had a great day. Took a couple days just to relax; I needed it. I feel good that even with the relax days I'm moving more towards the middle of my maintenance range. Someone is coming to look at a very nice canoe I have for sale.
Struggle of the week: I miss time in the forest. Funny - for quite a while I wasn't hiking. I spent spare time on the river. When I'd hike I'd remember how much I enjoyed it. So now I miss that too. I am not sure I actually WANT to sell that very nice canoe. I'm going to get it out one more time just to make sure I'd be OK if it found a new home. It should. I like that it's ultralight. I probably should just get some part time work, earn some money, and build a storage shed so I can keep more canoes.0 -

Success/Struggle: I didn't log last week or did I do my regular exercising. The grandkids were here for some of the week and I took them to resort for a few days. I decided to just skip it. I did that very successfully. We went bike riding, swimming, walking, played pickle ball, and ate S'mores - and down in weight a little.2 -

Successes/Struggles:
Very successful at increasing my activity/exercise following my hip replacement (in May). July saw me dancing in the park on Sundays – we have live music in our local park through the summer – and doing longer walks. My average step count in the weeks prior to my op was around 7,500 per day, during June that increased from 7,000 to over 10,000 per day and July saw me exceeding 12,000 most days. Now regularly reaching 14,000 steps.
Also, successfully navigated post-op recovery, maintaining weight while targeting high protein and calcium.
Struggles: Trend weight is creeping up – family visits in July – need to keep an eye on calories over the next few weeks.

Success of the week: Weekly average weight is back below 150 again for the first time in about three months. I paddled four days this week - I helped a non-profit scout the fitst day of a four-day paddle trip on Sunday, I hosted a beginning whitewater paddling trip for the club on Monday, and I worked on survey-and-treat days for aquatic invasive species Wednesday and Thursday. I might paddle again today. I found out that some of my volunteer work will become compensated work. Not much, but every little bit helps. I wrote about thinking about part-time work last week as a struggle, and now it's a success!
Struggle of the week: All of the fun things I'm doing are running me ragged. It's that time of year, though. Soon the days will be dark, dreary and wet. For now, I'm trying to keep after it. I am NOT looking forward to temperatures of 105, 109, and 104 the next three days with higher than normal overnight temperatures to keep us from getting cooled down.

Success of the week: Spent most of the week outdoors staffing a multi-day paddling trip. My last task is today when I take the rental supplies back (tables, chairs, plates, etc.) and return the U-Haul truck. I was baggage handler and U-haul driver and camp logistics worker the first couple days and safety boater the last two days. Works for me; the first two days were about ten mile days, and the last two days were a tiny bit over 20. The catered food was really good, which leads to....
Struggle of the week: All of the delicious catered food. I skipped things like dinner rolls, but I ate plenty of other high-calorie food including even dessert a couple nights. One night the barbecue catering service had grilled pears to top our ice cream with. Oh that was really interesting. I loved 'em. Some people thought they were too smoked. Weight responded and jumped back up, but we all know it's temporary.1 -

I realized that I wanted to have a proper birthday meal tonight. It will also be the first time I have eaten bleu cheese in 3 years. In the beginning I could not regulate bleu cheese. I felt that I needed to reset that particular “taste”. Wish me luck!! I will either think, “why did I ever eat this crap?” or I will not be able to regulate it. I never know which it will be with me.
Struggles of the week:
Also, trying to get back into exercise after a disastrous June-July healthwise. Anemia is also kicking my butt. So I don’t want to, but I am going to get back in the saddle and have some healthy walking. Maybe not the daily hour long walks I used to enjoy, but I want to work back up to that again.

Successes/struggles of the week: I was pretty active the past few days. Over 22k steps one day, and close to 17k another with carrying/lugging around very heavy weights for over an hour. Slowly getting back on track with cooking more meals at home, though I've mainly been doing salads for several meals as they're low effort to put together.1 -
Had the birthday meal, and it turns out that bleu cheese crumbles on a salad will forever be a hit with me! BUT I don't feel like I need to eat a 1300 cal salad every day, so I can definitely regulate it. Nice win for me, I was exceedingly worried after the "smarties" fiasco. How can I not regulate smarties??? I don't even like them that much???0

Success/Struggle: I didn't log the last two weeks and last week I didn't do my regular exercising. That isn't a good sign. Lots of excuses but that doesn't lead to good health. I did remember to weight myself last week, just didn't record it until today. The only success is that my weight was good. Not anything to do my behavior, just good luck which will change if I don't put in a little effort.4 -

Success: I was back on track. I logged every day and did my video exercises as planned. I went for my mini walks most days wearing a mask. I haven't been able to do as much yardwork as I like due to smoke.
Struggle: I ate more calories than my plan most days. Not over a lot but it creates a creep up the scale.

Successfully (slowly) reducing weight back to the middle of my maintenance range.
Struggles – navigating days out.
I was 48 kg when I went in for surgery in May - I heard the anaesthetist say “she’s had a lesser dose of x because she’s only 48 kg”- and during the post-op period I didn’t worry too much about calories but made sure I got plenty of protein and calcium.
So, overall I’m happy that I haven’t put on too much weight. September should be a quiet month – no holidays planned, no family visits planned. My activity/exercise is pretty much back to normal so getting back to the lower end of maintenance should be possible.

Nice win for me, I was exceedingly worried after the "smarties" fiasco. How can I not regulate smarties??? I don't even like them that much???
For me, it’s an entrenched habit from my earlier decades of eating. I loved blue cheese salads, too. After transplant, blue cheese is a mandatory “no fly” food because of the bacteria, I believe. When I have a medical reason why I can’t eat a food, I find it pretty easy.
My equivalent to your smarties were M&M’s. I have only had Very Dark chocolate since 2017 or so, so I actually choose not to spend my calories on M&M’s. Plus the dues likely aren’t good for me.
I did have a candy I ate way too often back in college. I was fed up. I did an aversion activity with them & haven’t even thought of eating them since then.

I don't plan the day in detail but I eat the same breakfast every day (when at home) and I have almost the same lunch every day - salad, just varying the protein. So that doesn't really need planning. Dinner is more varied, but I do a lot of batch cooking so there's always something in the freezer that I can pull out, and I eat a lot of vegetables - which are mostly low calorie so don't need much planning.
It helps that I live on my own, and at the weekend when my partner is here it's always me doing the cooking.
Being away from home is a whole different ball game as the saying goes.2 -
