Hi! Can anyone recommend a good brand of pedometer? I keep trying them (granted i go cheap) and they never work. I am afraid to spend much since i can never get them to work - I dont know if it's me or the cheapness of the devices i keep getting. Can anyone give me advice (whether it's a good brand to get or a trick to get them to work accurately).
What seems to be happening is that they just dont count the steps right. For example i walked from my desk to the ladies room at work and the first time it said i walked 72 steps, the second time it said i walked 156...i understand that they are not 100% exact, of course. I clip it to my waist of my pants, at the hip...am I just doing this wrong? Or buying cheap pedometers? Or do they just hate me? lol
Maybe a silly question - but we do competitions at work on how many steps we can walk, and i can never participate because the devices never work - or at least i can't get them to
Thanks
Suzi

I like the watch ones, they don't fall off and I think they are acurate.0

I've got an Omron Walking Style 2 pedometer - I've had it a couple of years and it seems to be pretty reliable and accurate. I had a cheapy before that and I could log steps just by shifting position at my desk - if we went anywhere in the car you would think I'd walked there! The Omron doesn't do that thankfully!0

Whilst I know they are expensive, I use the Fitbug pedometer (subsidised by my Health insurer. They work really well.0

I
Pedometers! I wear one everyday and have for about 4 years now. I have literally gone through about 15 so far because I always accidently wash them. Right now I am using a New Balance Via Slim that I bought from Target for about $23. I love this pedometer. It is so slim and small that it just fits into my pocket. You cannot see it through my pants, even tight ones! It also comes with a clip for your waist band if you don't have pockets. It has what is called tri-axis technology and will track your steps accurately whether it is vertical, horizontal or whatever! The only down fall to this pedometer is that it doesn't come with a 7-day memory store. Good luck and if you are looking for a great pedometer then I highly recommend the one mentioned above.

I use a Omron HJ-720IT, got it in June and love it! It tracks steps taken, calories burned, miles walked, and can be either worn like a traditional pedometer, on a lanyard around your neck, or in a pocket/purse. It's advanced enough to know the difference between you walking and just general moving around (or trying the old "fake out" routine of shaking the be-jeebers out of it to wrack up the steps! Cheaters beware!)
What's more, it interfaces with your PC and lets you upload the data to software so you can track total steps, calories, miles, etc. over time. It's really sort of the Cadillac of pedometers, and the price is reasonable... around $33 at Amazon. It's very sturdy (it's survived a couple of tumbles to the ground from my pockets) and the battery life seems to be good (almost 4 months and still running very well.)0 -

*wants* that's the hightech version of mine - I might have to treat myself . . . .0 -
I use the bodymedia calorie counter/pedometer. it monitors daily calories through exercise and as long as you're wearing the armband, it monitors step count, sleep, type of activity, moderate or vigerous. i've used it for about 6 months now and im pretty impressed. its better than the body bugg.0
