    There's no universal answer.

MFP has documentation that lists the features you get with premium MFP. If those features would help you personally in significant enough ways, then premium is worth the price. If not, it isn't.

There's nothing secret in premium. It's the same food database, for example. Most of the major features work similarly. It has some more detailed controls over things like macros, calories per meal or per day of week, etc.

I've used both. I can get along fine with free MFP, but premium has some features that I like, such as more fine-grained control of macro goals, and more control over how exercise calories are added, just as examples. But that's individual.

If free MFP is working fine for you, and you don't perceive any deficiencies; and you don't see anything on the MFP premium features list that really grabs you . . . maybe stick with free MFP?

It is for me. I make full use of the additional features like Carbs, Protein & Fat Goals, Calorie Goals by Meal, Net Carbs Mode, Intermittent Fasting Tracker, Percent of Daily Totals, Food Timestamps, and AD FREE! I've been a Premium user for a couple of years now and plan to continue it.

None of the premium features would help me personally in a significant enough way.

I'm also boycotting premium on principle as it uses the same cluttered, glitchy database as free.
