Hi I'm monica. I'm 45 years old. Born and raised in Louisiana. My starting weight back in 2007-2008 was 305 pounds but now I'm at 246.2. I've been at this weight for about a month now and don't know how to start loosing again. I'm exercising and sometimes watching what I eat but my doctor told me if I get stuck to eat less. Any advice anyone can give me and I would love some friends to help me in my journey and anyone going through a weight loss journey. Thanks <3

My best advice would be to consistently watch what you eat, not just sometimes. This is a day in, day out thing if you really want to lose the weight. That's not to say you have to starve yourself. You don't even need to count calories. But you need to be aware of what you are eating. Maybe starting writing down everything that goes in your mouth into a journal. Every day, all day. Then make some goals for yourself. More vegetables? Less oil? Whatever you're noticing from your journal that might help you lose weight. Are you snacking way too much? Cut out the evening snacks. Drinking full fat soda? Switch to diet, etc.

You need to make a conscious effort to eat fewer calories every day of the week and not just a day here and there. Eliminate ultra processed foods as much as possible, things like cake, cookies, chips, white bread, fast food and eliminate or greatly reduce alcohol. I’m guessing those thing are what got you to your weight in the first place.

You want lean protein and vegetables as much as possible and don’t drink calories, things like fruit juices, etc.

Do you know a good estimate of your daily caloric need? Start there. I'd use a TDEE calculator and choose 'sedentary' (even if you are not simply bc it seems easier and it will give you all the values for the other activity levels anyway if one of those is more appropriate. You might even be between them).

Then consider - what are you consuming now? Is it near that? Less or more? You want to eat more than your Basal Metabolic Rate, but a little less than your TDEE/maintenance in order to lose weight. Once you know those estimates you can figure a good daily goal that will fit for you and know how much wiggle room you even have to create a deficit either with your diet, exercise, or a combination of both. Give yourself time and be consistent.

You can also simply use the guided set up in MFP -- that will give you a calorie goal - but when considering what rate of weight loss to choose, go smaller rather than larger.

Either way, simply focusing on being more active, getting more steps in a day is a great step 1.

I would just add that it is worth every bit of effort you put in to learning how to eat the right amount of food and to choose nutritionally dense foods.

Set up your Goals here. Learn to log food. Use a food scale. Study your food log every day and learn from it.

I think eating less combined with being more active will get the best results.
