How long to lose?

Can y’all give me an idea of what to expect as far as weight lose. I’ve lost 4 pounds in 8 days. And need to lose 10-13 more. I know slow is best but just an idea?? How long has it taken you. Thanks.

It took me 9-10 months to lose ~25lbs. I lost ~.6-.8lbs per week on average after all was said and done. I weighed myself every other week usually, sometimes I stayed the same, gained, and sometimes I lost multiple lbs at my weigh in.

You are correct that slow is generally best just bc it ends up being much more sustainable (based on various factors). You don't have much to lose so .5lb per week as a goal to guide what you're doing is a good place to start. 4lbs in 8 days likely some is water weight.

At the rate I lost (.75 pounds per week), it would have taken me 13-17 weeks to lose 10-13 pounds.

The time passes either way. I’m very happy with the results.

your initial quick loss is mostly water. Your rate of loss will be determined by the size of your weekly calorie deficit. A daily deficit of 500 calories is about a pound a week. You can do the math with that equation.

You haven't lost four pounds. Most of that is water.

Stick to the plan, evaluate again in a couple of months. Take pics, take measurements, lift weights, increase protein.

I lost 18lb in 4 months, which in hindsight was a tad fast given I was still (just) in the okay BMI range. I have kept it off BUT I would note that’s by changing my eating habits. The changes I made had to stick as otherwise the weight would have slowly crept back on again. I had to look at the change in diet as a longer term project to suit my new exercise style and personal requirements.

    I did the same…
    Lost 4lb in 8 days…
Put a lb back on…lost it 2 days later…hoping I will lose 2lb this week but I won’t and it’s not bothered me to be honest :)

    It’s water weight :) if u want to lose it…eat protein…exercise and walk :)

I found it easier to lose weight about 5 years ago…now I’m finding it harder…

The goal is to lose weight but the main goal is to realise the food choices we make are what makes us put weight on…:) x

Ok. Thanks. That’s what I figured. I walk 3-5 miles a day. Do strength training most days and eat lots of protein now. And drink lots of water.

While protein is important, a consistent calorie deficit over time is the key to fatloss

With only 10-13 pounds to lose, your weekly weight loss goal should only be a half pound per week. Weight loss will and should be slow.

Like previous posters said, some of that 4 pounds was probably water.

I had about that much to lose recently, and chose to lose half a pound a week or less. (In retrospect, it was less.)

This was re-loss of a few pounds that had crept on over roughly 4 years in maintenance, after losing from class 1 obese around 8 years ago.

On the negative side, yes, it was slow (months!). On the positive side, it was almost entirely painless, not much change in my daily routine, letting me stay strong & energetic, perform well athletically, etc. I'd do it again, in a similar scenario, rather than choose a bigger deficit that would be more disruptive, less pleasant, and more challenging.

    YMMV.

With so little to lose, for me it’s about 2lb a month when I am tightening up
