i would like to talk to someone that is a nutrionist and a personal trainer. I go to the YMCA to workout but the people they have employed do not seem to be very fit and i want someone who not only has book knowledge but does the work and knows first hand what works. any suggestions on where i can go to find one?

First off, don't trust a "nutritionist" that works in a gym. There is very little requirement to become a "certified" nutritionist...you can take a month long course online and become "certified". You want to go to a nutritionist in a medical facility. These folks will have a minimum of a Masters in Nutrition and have to take a certification test every 5 years to ensure that they are staying up to date with current nutritional information. Ask your doctor or insurance company for a nutritional referral.

I can recommend someone for you that frequents these forums. His name is Steve Stroutman (stroutman81) and he's one of the most knowledgeable people I've met on these forums. I'm pretty knowledgeable myself, but he's a legend. He's up there with Alan Aragon, Lyle McDonald, and Martin Berkhan honestly.

i am 5'7 and 130lbs. my goal weight is 120lbs but no matter what i do i can not lose any more weight. so i am considering switching my goals to do more weightlifting and toning but i am not sure what to do, how much to do, what to eat and if i should switch to maintance or not. i dont want to be huge like a bodybuilder but i want that ripped and toned appereance.
  • There's a huge difference between a "Nutritionist" and someone with a certification in fitness nutrition. If someone advertises that they are a full fledged nutritionist I highly suggest that you ask to see their college diploma. It is outside a specialist's scope of practice to act as one.
That being said, I'd probably suggest that you ask around the gym, find some resources and go from there. Everyone knows somebody, and its going to take a little legwork for you to find someone that is not only truly knowledgeable but who also clicks with you personally. There's quite a few personal trainer searches available on Google, so thats also another place that you can start. Good luck with your search!
